Game lags to hell even with decent specs
I run a linux system, and because of that, I tend to be pretty careful with what games I buy.

However, looking at ProtonDB, this has a Platinum rating, and given how some of my friends love the game, I bought it.

However, this game is almost unplayable for me, as even on the lowest graphics settings, it seems to lag like hell, even when offline.

Any help towards fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Ubuntu 18.04.4
i7-8750 H @2.20 GHz
8 GB RAM
GeForce GTX 1060

Decent specs huh? A laptop? Does your decently specced laptop have a discrete gpu? Or are you trying to run the game on the integrated Intel UHD 630, your processor seems to have according to intel ark?
Because if so, I would bet that is the cause of your lag. With the minimum recommended specs asking for a GeForce GTX 760 or Radeon HD 7850.

I edited the original post and added my graphics card...

Yes, I have a discrete GPU, and yes it's above the GTX 760...

I did check the specs on the game before I bought it, and like I said, it's all but unplayable, no matter what I do.

are sure about not using wrong graphic card (intel or somethink) if you are doing that you should change it from Nvidia Control Panel

Ok, then it should be playable at least. Maybe check if the game is actually using the discrete gpu or not. And make sure it is not running in virtual 4k or something. Unfortunately I have no experience with Proton, and I have not played games on linux in years, so I don't know what else could be wrong.

I think I may have found what was going haywire.
I had System Monitor open in the background, and when I checked it, it showed that one core went absolutely crazy sometimes, going up to 100%.

Looking around the internet, I've found that this game only uses a few cores, and puts a lot of strain on just one of them.

I'm going to try fiddling about to see what I can do now.

Yeah, no.

No matter what I try, I'm still getting constant stuttering, and I have no idea what even to do any longer.

Only thing I can tell is that the game has yet to use more than 70% of my RAM, and one of my CPU cores goes 100% every now and then.

Tried fighting the butterfly boss, and it's just impossible.

trying to figure out why code vein wont run right on my pc with my 1800x and rtx 2070, but runs perfectly smooth on my gf's ryzen 3 1200 and 1050ti

Nah, my CPU usage never seems to go above 10% when I'm just idling around on the internet, it's just that one or two cores go crazy in Code Vein, which makes no sense as I have exactly zero issues playing things like Nier Automata, and that's also a relatively new game.

Might be an incompatibilty between the game and Linux, did you look if that's the case?
Lupine Horror Jun 24, 2020 @ 3:35am
Like I said, it has a Platinum rating on Proton, and some of them say it runs like native.

I haven't been able to get it to work though.

Found a solution... sort of.
Adding the Launch options "-notexturestreaming -useallavailablecores" to the game means it takes forever to load anything, but the playability has gone up massively, if not perfectly (good enough for me to beat the Butterfly of Delirium at least).

It seems in return, my RAM is almost completely maxed out... so possibly upgrading that from 8GB to better might make things all sunshine and rainbows in the near future for me!

8 GB nowadays is equal to nothing tbh... Yes, you should upgrade it.

Yeah, just ordered 2x 16GB RAM sticks, my laptop can handle up to 32GB... so this should help.

What is the speed of the RAM you got, it does make a difference provided your motherboard model supports said speeds.

Are you using a wireless Xbox One controller by any chance? My friend and I have above average setups, but both of us notice that the game has frame issues when using a wireless Xbox One controller. Connecting the controller via a physical cable actually fixed the issue for both of us.

Edit: Disregard this since it seems this issue is unrelated.
