Revenant Death in Lore

I'm trying to understand what it's like since obviously the gameplay has you turn to particles/ash, but lore/story wise that happens at permanent death. Do Revenants in story just drop to the ground until they're given enough blood to get back up?

The answer to that involves a lot of spoilers.

The Queen was killed, but could not properly regenerate when her body was separated into pieces and kept separate. These pieces became the relics in the story.

As to why the MC survived the heart piercing during their memory cutscene after the boss, my theory is that because the MC had used a drain attack to kill the queen, the MC had taken in some of the blood of the queen and became an unintentional relic. It's possible that due to the level of science involved with the queen, her blood could not be filtered like that of another revenant or lost with the typical gear that would be equipped at the time.

In other words, the MC became the first successor and due to the unusual nature of his/her relic, it didn't have the same effects as a regular relic.

The Queen was birthed as a result of Cruz going into a frenzy. Frenzy is what separates Lost from Revenants, as Frenzy is the result of the BOR parasite craving fresh and clean blood that it cannot simply get from its host. The parasite invading the rest of the body as a result of this starvation is what allows it to bond at the cellular level and damages the mind almost irreparably.

Also, even though the queen was killed, her body parts still would not completely die no matter what happened even when separated. This is why it's important that the Queen doesn't resurrect. She would return in her frenzied state and there would be another massive loss of life, revenant and human alike.

The queen breaks the mold because of how powerful she is. If you look at the cutscene Jack drives his sword through her heart, and she jsut smirks and throws more thorns. It was only the Drain attack on her heart that got her to drop int oa coma basically.

Get the kill all successor ending, that is exactly what happens. It takes all or most of the relics though and the presence of frenzy to become the Queen. I personally love that ending, feel it fits the game.

The BOR Parasite moves from being only integrated into the heart, to integrating itself into every cell in the body. That is also why they morph and disfigure.

She was also notably more powerful than previous revenants. She didn't crave blood, just wanton violence. Again, the reason she could not be killed is because the parasite was bonded to her on a cellular level, something that the Lost share and why they can infinitely spawn in game.

The creation of the parasites isn't really explained, just that they were created and could be implanted in the hearts of corpses to revive the dead (possibly the living too but no confirmation on that AFAIK).

I though I had thescreenie of saying they did further research and refinement on them before human implantation but i c annot find them right now.

Actually, now that I think about it, what about the bosses? (excluding Successors) Their Lost, but they die permanently after we kill them (though we do see variations of them in the Depths). The Assassin's Sickle for the Invading Executioner even mentions the Lost being reduced to ash.

i saw that ending, i didnt ask about that, since it probably happened because relics inside mc combined into whole and reincarnated the old queen

i asked about why they didnt turn the moment they were infected with queens blood why didnt they become the new queen

its implied if you dont restore them they are gone for good hence why new people took their place in that ending
