question regarding the DRM
so i know a lot of companies that use denuvo end up removing it later on. i'm interested in this game, but i make it a point not to buy any games that implement it, even if they're a game i really, really want to play.

is the use of denuvo here intended for the first few weeks to 'prevent' early cracks, and then later being removed, or do the developers intend to keep it on the steam release of code vein?

i'm really interested in what i've heard about the excellent character creator, so i really do want to try it at some point. thanks.

Noone knows if Denuvo will be removed or not.
Publishers/Developers will keep the info to themselves and not share something like this to the public unless a Scandal or something happen but majority they will not inform the public.

They're not going to have any incentive to remove it.

They won't remove it. DRM only hurts paying customers. They don't care about us, they just care about doing whatever it takes to make money off us.

I'm also struggling with this. I really want the game but I don't want to support denuvo. This one in particular is testing my resolve.

The idea that it's this big harmful thing is all ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ anyway so just set aside the moral point for something actually worthwhile and play a fun video game.

Having played a little over 12 hours now, I actually haven't noticed any ill effect from Denuvo in this title. I still don't like Denuvo or DRM in general, but my CPU isn't sweating over this one so I'm fine with it.

in some games it's been harmful to computers, but not all. i can't take that risk. i'm broke as ♥♥♥♥, and if my computer starts performing worse

well, that's not really a risk i can afford to take, moneywise.

good to know, siren, ty

I doubt they will, Octopath is cracked but still has Denuvo.

I've never seen actual evidence of Denuvo harming something, only scores of people telling me that Denuvo harms things.

So I question how much of that risk is there.

"a) Denuvo. This Game is protected by Denuvo Anti-Tamper technology (“Anti-Tamper Technology”). By installing this Game, you acknowledge and consent that certain files of the Anti-Tamper Technology may remain even after the Game is uninstalled from your computer. For more information, please visit Denuvo’s website."

this part particularly stands out to me as skeevy. they're saying denuvo keeps files on your computer, even if you uninstall the game.

@efesell
it's been purported, and mentioned on wikipedia, that denuvo makes a lot of write operations. like, a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. this can harm SSDs.
Efesell Sep 28, 2019 @ 9:18pm
Yes, I agree that lots of things have been purported. There are certainly no shortage of claims.
Megamaw Sep 28, 2019 @ 9:23pm
i am not financially well off. if those claims are true, then any damage to my computer's internals could set my finances back farther than is physically safe for me.

even if denuvo doesn't actually harm my computer, i'm not going to go around playing craps with the most expensive thing i own.

there's also no financial incentive for denuvo to make sure their DRM /doesn't/ harm computers.

unless conclusive evidence is presented that denuvo cannot harm my computer, it's not a risk i, as a consumer, am willing to take.
Efesell Sep 28, 2019 @ 9:26pm
Sure, sure, I get you. If my computer breaks then I just don't have one anymore there's no way I could just afford one on the spot.

Doesn't mean I'm gonna live my life being afraid of a bogeyman though.

Depends on the studio. Some care enough to remove once Denuvo's protection has ran its course, while others can't be bothered.

Denuvo had all these problems OP mentioned and more in earlier builds, but I'm pretty sure most of them have been ironed out at this stage, and the only real concerns at this point are 1) the occasional bad implementations and 2) inability to access the game offline for a prolonged amount of time.

That's actually really disconcerting....

Yeah, the thing that bothers me is that you technically don't own the game. I'm sure it's unlikely, but if they ever shut down their servers or I couldn't access the internet, I can't play the game I purchased and supposedly own.

And that's the other side that's tempting me so much to buy this. On one hand I have my morals, on the other life's short and I want to play a fun video game I've been looking forward to for years. =/
