I love Dark Souls but if you think every area is a marvel of design and asthetics then you need to get off your nostalgia train.
Lost Izalith/Demon Ruins says "Hi!". Also Harvest Valley in DS2 looks like DOOM 1. In DS3 i have no complaints.
Although, i also dislike the Cathedral, but not because of the mazelike structure, but cause the esthetics are unimaginative and devoid of color.
Funny enough, I can direct myself with some ease (Anor Londo is easier but that's besides the point)
It's matter of looking with care and biding your time.. then again I have great spatial awareness
Can't see any similarities with Anor Londo though, it wasn't a maze.
