Thats kinda how its ALWAYS been in Souls style games. You do, however, have a gift on all blood codes that allows you to bring someone back before they fade into nothing by giving them some of your health.

i dont really understand it tho i mean i dont see the harm in letting someone finish the fight or fight till they die etc

Bosses are story fights, the whole point is that the host is actually progressing in their game and you're just there to help them out. If you let them die then you failed.

What would the host even do when they're dead and how weird would it be to just get randomly thrown into a cutscene after seeing potentially very little of what a boss has to offer because your co-op partner did all the work when you died.

revive after the boss dies and if they died thats not on you cant do mechanics for them and if you enter a cutscene after dying for example? who cares it would play normally none of that is a concern

I don't see it as a flaw but as to avoid completely getting carried, sure you can still carry the host but he/she has to do some effort to stay alive and not be a floor tank or afk the whole fight that's not how co-op is suppose to work.
It just like Dark Souls :v

You have a very self-centered mindset for someone playing as a co-op partner. You failed the objective when the host player died. If you're concerned with being unable to continue a battle because someone else died then you should stick to being the host and refrain from volunteering yourself to others.

so your not allowed to have the expectation that your partner should be somewhat competent ? ok

Looks like I had you figured out.

Of course you can't have the expectation your partner is competent. The only way you can do that is by setting a password and playing with a friend/acquaintance you deem "competent". Perhaps the person requested a co-op partner because they're having difficulty with the game or content and would like someone "competent" such as yourself to assist them. This isn't difficult to grasp. You're just too caught up in your own ego to understand.

my ego? are you serious so your saying you have a partner and they are just completely dead weight the whole time and you had the minimal expectation of them being able to contribute at least a little bit is egotistical ?

if i was put on a team i would want to play my part and help out its like playing a game and having a healer who stands there and doesnt heal oh sorry for expecting you to heal whoops

just stop with the crap lol

I'm saying it ruins the experience for the player, you're a guest there's no reason for you to exist if you're not going to help the host. The boss is there to be an obstacle for them to overcome.

I'm sure there are places in-game for slapping bosses around if that's all that interests you but if you're playing co-op then you should try to be more supportive of the host player, that's how it always works in these types of games. If they were capable of soloing the boss then they wouldn't have called for help in the first place so it is on you to help make up for their lack of skill.
So it appears that the true problem isn't the co-op system :v
The problem is that the OP wants to blame his partner for not trying and wasting his time :v

What a plot twist :v !

That's why I liked Remnant from the ashes, you can rez your mate, it costs you a dragon heart which is like an estus flask but you can go on. They did their own twist on the Soul formula and it worked well.

You might like Nioh, it's only 2 player except in the arena but has a mode to sync your progression and you only die if both players go down at once or too many times.
