When I launch the game, I hear a small audio bite, then a black screen. Fix please.

When I play chapter 1 with the window mode box unchecked I still do not get anything like a full screen presented for the game - is this normal for this game ? Is there any other option to enlarge the game to fill the screen ? - will this be just the same for chapter 2 of this game ? - many thanks if any one can answer me ouy there....
