why did this game "die"?
i dont see how it died, it has a fun gameplay loop, good visuals. The guns feel punchy, and the gameplay lets you keep innovating on tactics with essentially no limit

The developers basically announced "Splitgate 2" because they felt the game wasn't what they wanted it to be for the players so they wanted to build upon it. Ever since they stopped updating, less people played. I wish it was still popular too
Edit: Thank you so much for giving me an award! It's my first time and thank you very much!

As an Overwatch player this is the only other FPS game I enjoy. With the state that OW is in I wish this game was still getting updates. I'd be playing this every day instead.

because they realized that direct hits meant nothing. You dont even need to shoot the person just shoot next to them lol it counts its lame... Once I realized that the hit boxes were like the marshmellow man I quit because whats the fun in that?

This, the devs basically put the game into hospice care when they announced they were stopping support of the game (Mind you this came right after the game "re-released" beta) which was kind of a FU move by the devs to the new players they picked up.

it's not dead I had around 600 players on Steam and it had a surge on player base that the developers failed to capitalize on, now it's back to it's original player base so technically it's not dead it maintained it's original player base and it's still a great game.
it died because they gave up caring about it, hitboxes are oof and they took too long to do anything, if they ever did, about controller people dominating with incredibly good aim assist for competitive modes. for some people the lack of variety also got stale, to me it was good enough, so I quit when comp wasnt feeling fair.
I wish they had a way to have this be able to be played offline just with bots or LAN or p2p so we can still have fun with friends. (Is it? it's been a while, i have no idea)
Combination of things. When I was playing it, the game was competent, not as good as past similar games like UT and Quake, but it could hold its own. People tend to play the same old games on Steam, it's almost like other genres or games can't gain a foothold other than CSGO, Team Fortress, and the usual BR or survival, open world, or military demonstrations. I honestly get tired of coming to this platform month after month and nothing changes. As good as other games may be they always share the same fate. I would prefer another platform devoted to only sci fi games and that may come along someday. Merging every genre into this site often means RIP or graveyard for any game outside of the usual genres.

This game feels like a modernized Unreal Tournament, and I do play it every now and then. I mostly play this and Team Fortress 2 in terms of multiplayer shooters.

But I'm definitely hoping that the successor to this has dedicated server tools (So someone can host their own server with custom maps and game modes, or simply to play the game through LAN or when the game servers shut down) and proper map editor tools (rather than a glorified Forge World)

portals. no one wants to learn a whole new skill that only 1 game will ever use. if they designed the game around no portals or even just preset portals it'd have been good. every map plays the same with portals and has no flow whatsoever. they threw a curveball at halo and called it a new game. I will say, splitgate feels better then infinite gunplay wise so they easily could have made a killing without portals.

Simple, don’t use the portals then and learn spatial awareness. Not every game has to be a homogenized Call of Duty clone, just for people to then complain about every multiplayer shooter feeling the same.

This game plays like a run and gun arena shooter. Beats the flow of COD games where most people just sprint into a conflict and die because the base player movement is slow as molasses.

devs abandoned the game and so the playerbase

The biggest problem with the game is this:

You start off basically unbeatable in some sort of god mode if you are average with moderate experience of FPS games where you get 20+ kills a match, then somewhere down the line the game decides to place you in matches you have no reason to ever be in and you die 20+ times in a match.

If there is any SBMM in this game it's absolutely atrocious and probably the worst I've ever seen, or maybe it just puts every new player in a new player pool regardless of skill so the average players with fps experience stomp the new players with ease and at a certain point it groups everyone together past a certain rank and then even the average start suffering the same way all those new players did.

New players probably leave immediately, experienced average players leave when the game is mistreating them, leaving only the small amount of god tier players playing each other for all eternity.

It's a recipe for a dead game. Seriously... It's not hard to do matchmaking correctly, there is a reason Halo 3 lasted until the plug was literally pulled. Good Matchmaking system that didn't place people in impossible matches (Unless someone was smurfing)

No, it's not called that either but they hinted that it's basically an improved Splitgate. There's barely any details so this is just going off of that and as for being released, they're still working on it with no release date or title.
