How is Divine Protection calculated?
I am wondering if I have the process backwards, or if this skill is bugged. The game is pretty fast paced, so I'm not entirely sure how to test this but I will explain what I have noticed by using this passive skill.

From the game:
Divine Protection
The Priest is protected by a shield that absorbs damage in exchange for mana.

At rank 5 it says:
The shield absorbs 50% of incoming damage for a cost of 0.5 mana per damage absorbed.

Now Priest ALSO gets a passive which increases all healing, including regen, by a large amount. With that said, I took the 100% increased Mana regen and 25% reduced mana cost of skills blessings, I do believe that given it's a passive skill, it also applies here - limitless potential seems to remove the mana cost entirely, and the description says something along the lines of "Skills take no mana" but - regardless - you can see the Priest total regeneration side by side, and it INCLUDES the amount given by the Healing passive.

So, here is what I have noticed about this skill.

My Mana regeneration is much higher, typically, than my Life regen.

My total Mana is much higher, typically, than my total Life.

I'm running out of Mana, even without casting skills, before my Life seemingly drops (much) below completely full.

Why I think this is a problem:
Given the wording of the skill, I am assuming that it is directing 50% of the damage that I'm taking towards my Mana rather than taking it all from my Health. This means it should be 50/50 between the two - except, it says "0.5 mana per damage absorbed" - meaning you should be losing HALF of the amount of mana as you are HP. Even with a greater amount of Mana regeneration than Life regeneration, my Mana empties long before my HP.

Has anybody noticed something similar? Am I reading the description backwards and it's protecting at the cost of 0.5 life per 1 mana? Are those the intended numbers?

My suspicion is that the mana absorption occurs before some of the damage reduction effects.

Yeah, I think you are correct. I just did a run with 75% increased physical dmg taken and the drink that makes you take 10% more and my HP was dropping real fast relative to my mana.
