How to Not Get Blown Up
How does one not instantly get destroyed while playing squishy classes like Sorcerer?

I'm currently trying to do NG+5 with my Sorcerer who has 220 health, and I'm doing plenty of
damage, but the problem is that while I'm clearing rooms of monsters I'll randomly get blown up
and die without even having time to use a potion.

Am I building wrong or is it just a matter of "git gud"?

I'm using the builds on Bweeks HoH guide btw

Probably the wrong person to answer because I haven't quite gotten to NG5 yet (I do have a couple hundred hours on the game, tho), but Evasion seems to be the way to go. Survival by evasion is not a guarantee of course, but combined with the other defenses in the game, you can be quite formidable. Evasion doesn't get scaled back like def/resistance does.

Mostly it is "keep moving." Learning the speed of projectiles and movement patterns to avoid the projectile spam is the way to stay alive at higher NG+ levels.

Evasion helps if you make a mistake, especially with lots of luck, but it isn't something you should have to rely on as sometimes the evasion items won't be in your run.

Other items are the gloves of warding and reinforced gloves, those can give you a free mistake every 5 seconds on a certain damage type.

Learn how to play like a coward. Get right on the edge of argo range and lob a orb into the mobs, drag any stragglers to a corner and blast them with frost nova. The sorc has the best dps potential in the game, but his kit also allows for him/her to play the game with minimal risk and exposure.

Sorc is the best class for pushing higher ng imo, currently im at NG135+

Best advice here. I will like to add Sorceror has amazing defense. Best offense to defense ratio I'd say. Ice shield has trivialized so much damage when I play. Find a much harder time playing stuff like warlock myself. My sorc also highest NG of my classes and by a fair number. (far from 135 though).

So the answer is simply to play much more careful? Because currently the way I clear something like the chambers is by running into the room and following the outer edge of the room while firing into the main group of mobs in the center.

To maximize your damage output equip Wylmir, Ozreth, and Cedric, and pump a few levels into them. The more you invest into them they will become your main damage output to the point you really only need 2 starting items (lucky hat and blue crit staff) and can finish a run with just those.

But my problem is living to deal that damage. For example, I was playing Ng+7 on my Sorcerer and I LITERALLY got 1 shot by the sword spray attack from the Vampire Lord boss. I had around 290 health and he did 300 damage with 1 sword. And I assume as I go up in NG's it's going to get worse. So what do I do? Just learn how to perfectly dodge everything?

EDIT: For example, look at this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYHMyiDoYFo&t=3s

This man is on NG+236 and can literally waltz in there, and never even get close to being 1-shot. Nevermind the fact that he is dealing crazy amounts of damage anyways.. How does he do that? I've seen his build and it's not that different from what I have.

He probably has the class titles for pally and warlock at the same or similar level to the sorc

I don't think Vamp lord hits me that hard when I'm fighting him. Are these dry hits or are you saying Vamp is doing 300 damage through your ice barriers?

Also I find that video you posted highy sus. Yellow numbers are for non crits and purple are for crits. How does that guy get 100% purple numbers when getting a single crit should happen 41.5% of the time? Am I missing some amazing Hammerwatch secret or something?

If you turn off local damage numbers, it will only show crits.

Well, the 300 damage was a dry hit, not through ice barriers. Should I be spamming the ice comet to build up shield stacks or something?

I was not aware of this option. I honestly thought maybe if damage got high enough all numbers just became purple.

I'd recommend it. I know I keep a low cost comet just to spam it. Stack several layers of frost and run through some of the less lethal traps or stack up before I enter a boss fight. Really should be making use of it whenever. Even with having less health than some other classes requiring twice as much damage to die makes Sorcerer harder to kill than his hardier allies.
