Multiple of the same item? Why not force other drops?
So, in this run it became apparant that items can drop multiple times, even if you've already got it etc.

I've got multiple monster journals twice as you can see in the picture.
What I dislike about this is that although yes, the items stats probably (not certain) still add up as normal, items beyond the bonus limit grant no bonus, which makes them much worse.

So, why not do it like (for example) binding of isaac, where they force new item spawns and you basically can't (although yes, I know you can get two of an items in binding of isaac rarely if you force it) get two of the same item?

Managed to get three of a kind of two of the books here, what makes it pretty bad is that they only boost my damage etc against a specific type of enemy, so I imagine some if not all just do nothing against the final boss.

If you are getting duplicate items, it's because you already have all the items within that rarity, or very close to it.

So, if you find a duplicate green blood dagger, it's because you have almost all the green-rarity items already. There really isn't anything else to give you that wouldn't be a duplicate. Previous to the most recent patch, the game would potentially shift the rarity of an item to avoid duplicates (you have all white items, so instead, it gives you a green), but this didn't really help, only delay, and gave weird situations in multiplayer where one player would receive a white, one would get a blue, another a green, etc, and didn't even solve the problem.

The real solution is to either decrease the max number of items you can even find in a run, or even better, double the number of items that exist, so a player will never be able to get all the items, period.

I for one bought all items just because I knew it increases chances to get items of higher rarity. Now it kind of sucks. Green items from gold chests ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ everywhere.

Yeah lets make pamphlets for every individual leg of a spider, players will sure love that.

I had 3 tower shields, that I got consecutively on floor 5.

How does a ranger use 3 tower shields?

Easy, strap one to your back, strap the second one to your chest and wear the third as a hat.



But on a serious note, duplicates should be removed, if you get all the items from a category then the next one should spawn from the lowest category you still didn't fill up.

OR make duplicates stack, I've had 2 vendor's coins and they do not stack, that is the equivalent of wasting a key to open a chest and getting nothing, not even a diamond.

Probably not that item, then.

I was thinking more like, different variants of items that already exist.

So, you have an item that gives +3 physical damage on primary attack? Make an item which gives +1 magical damage on primary attack.

You have an item that gives 5 damage block? Make an item that gives 2% evasion and 2 damage block.

Movespeed on evasion? What about movespeed when you drop below 50% hp?

There is plenty of design space left to make new items, across all tiers. Adding more items merely decreases the chance of you getting a specific item from a specific chest. When scepter of kings is 1 item out of 20 blue items, it's an ok chance. If there are 60 blue items, it is a much lower chance to get this specific item. Maybe this makes the game harder, but it's a good change to make it so, by the end of the game, you don't have literally every item. If everyone has every item by game's end, then every character is nearly identical in terms of bonus stats.
