They are very special, considering what they open. If you found one, you're very likely to come across a matching chest in Acts 4 and 5.

Also spoilers ahead, the legendary items in this game are nothing less than amazing. Ive used the Soul Taker (instantly kills a random enemy of the same type when you kill one) which is basically double damage, and Medusa's Gaze (Slows anything your character faces, and if you get hit, the attacker is stunned for 6s) is wonderful for forcing hordes to clump up tight.

Flurry of arrows is your friend. The moment i got mana regen + combo regen gear it went from barely reaching act 4 to completing newgame in one shot.

theres the problem.
i specced into primary + crit + evade. with one in the twinning shots and a couple in bombs and flurry.
would help if they added a respec for 5K/10K or something.

Anyone know where to get red keys? I've gotten only from imp and the spinning paladin mob in the 3rd floor but those are insanely rare drops and imp is basically nowhere to be seen.. there has to be another way?? My last run I had to leave 3 red chests

There are three sources, two of which you already noted: Imps and miniboss-grade enemies. Puzzles from the Archives can also yield them.

I recently asked the developers about the phenomenon with Ace keys, and they stressed that the keys are intentionally rare: "You shouldn't be able to obtain a legendary item each run."

If it's any consolation, there's only 4 Legendary items in the entire game to date. and obtaining any of them besides Medusa's Charm is a game breaker -- trust me on that, I've seen the effects firsthand and the game becomes very yawnfest after acquiring one.

Thanks for the detailed reply, much appreciated. But yeah I've gotten the meteor and cloak and they are really good
