I will say that act 4 in particular can be very rough if you have bad resistance, and in act 5 the ice mages can nuke you into the shadow realm with how much damage their cone breath thingy does if you have bad resistance. I consider resistance as being much more prevalent in later acts and it's usually in my best interest to at least buy resistance items given the opportunity such as robes of the arch-magi and the amulet of kings.
That being said there's probably a lot more physical damage than magical damage overall from enemies, lol
There is an issue with this part, namely with Hybrid Damage. I'm 100% sure that some effects can trigger partially, like 1/3 to dodge on Fallen Heroes (most evident with Sorc when he always does 1/2 of damage and rarely doubled damage without inflicting crits).
And, to tell the truth, I don't belive that damage being physical or not has something to do with "blockable" in this game, sorry.
