he shines in groups as his sustained damage is great

Now think of that same group and take any class but ranger. I can guarantee you are better off.

At what point is a ranger considered fallen off? It still seems fine at level 8 for completing the second zone, but that's still pretty early. I have heard it doesn't scale well, though.

The ranger can do damage at the greatest range for any of the classes and requires no mana. Seems pretty party balanced. Theif seems to be the only lackluster class as of now unless I am underestimating it.

The ranged damage isn't all that great. You'll be doing such a low damage it won't kill much in the game other than bats. It's only really good for aggro and while you shoot decently fast it's only when you stand still.
Also arrows that pierce enemies does a lot less damage than normal arrows.

Their high crit rate gives them incredible item synergy, having one along makes the later bosses a lot easier as you have a constant source of nonstop damage without mana issues. Even on warlock I have to pop pots for mana to down the final boss.

I have noticed that the critical passive is actually seperate from regular item and upgrade crit, and I'll get double-crits sometimes due to that. If they all scale with critical damage, double crits would have an insane multiplier on them, but it sounds gimmicky.
Starting to level priest, I can already see how Smite can tear through mobs better than arrows, despite the range disadvantage.

I think ranger is fine. It sacrifices raw damage for moderate damage and expanded range. If you play wisely the class reward patience. It's nowhere near as flashy as some other classes but I can't really think of that as a negative.
Going back to ranger after playing the other characters, the main thing is that he is noticably slow. Oh so slow. Slow to damage, slow to move, slow to kills, slow to level, slow to heal.

Worse, what a Paladin can do at level 1 the ranger struggles with at level 6 or so. At level 8 any character outshines a level 15 ranger and does so at much greater speed.

I like the caracter. It was my main in the first Hammerwatch. In that game his benfit was able to move and shoot was amazing. In this game he is actually slower to dish out damage while moving than any of the other classes and is middling defensively and cant heal himself and is a range based character with three skills only relevant when enemies are close.

remove slow on shoot and/or remove slow shooting while moving

Both outclass ranger in AOE damage and pure CC, the only thing ranger has is DPS and even that is outperformed by thief.
Ranger is a liability rn for lategame

Guys, since it's too minor to create the thread of it's own:

Is the spinning skill modified by Primary Attack buffs of Skill Attacks ones?

But you can easily target Elites\Sorcerers and other Archers. Archers is quite annoying to deal with wizzards and sorcs, but it's kill all you can with Ranger.

Skill Attack. My primary does way more damage than the spin attack and it's actually convinced me to remake my ranger cause the skill sucks so much balls in the later stages.
