Pll were complaining about lack of content when game was labeled v0.1. Ppl were complaining about broken balance when game was labeled as v0.1. Ppl were complaining about stability and bugs when game was labeled as v.0.1.
Ask ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that have 100000+ subscribers on their Youtube channels with what part of their body they were thinking when hyping the game, that was ENTERING Early Access stage, and calling it as "battlefield killer ". Not devs, but some dolts aka Youtube influencers were calling game "battlefield killer ".
And here comes the long part:
When hyped crowd began to storm the login servers, the latter weren't productive enough to calculate all the login request and were overloaded. This resulted in notorious infinite authentication problem of the first days. Devs later were saying that they weren't expecting a flood this big. It was first hit to WW3's image /credibilty.
So, majority of players was sitting in front of their monitors looking at authenticating screen. Some were doing it for few hours straight. When realising that nothing is changing some began to ask for refunds. With Steam's refund policy "less than 2hrs in-game to ask for refund" large part of players received refund refusal. Add to this inability to enter the game and u'll see why the "scammers" allegation appeared for the first time. It was the second hit.
3rd hit ironically coincided with 0.3 patch. Devs rushed it to meet the Christmas/NewYear holidays and when it went live for absolute majority of players it resulted in frequent crashes. For me, for example, it was 2 crashes during one 45mins match or 8 crashes in 1 day. What u need to know is that when u leave the server - u lose all the BPs u've earned in that match and when reconnecting u have to start with zero points. Sometimes it's infuriating. Ppl were a "little"disappointed. Add to this that devs went on holidays and the problem was there for few next weaks. Later devs were saying that they didn't expect this problem to appear because on the studio's PCs it never existed. But dmg was done already.
Problem with ur game and server crashes was cleared fully only in Spring '20. Previously it could be:
A) ur game's crash and u r kicked to a Windows desktop screen.
It's fixed.
B)server crash when all the movement is stopped for 1 min and then all players are kicked to WarMap menu.
Prior to Spring'20 it was happening every 3-5 matches.
Now it's almost fixed and happens rarely.
So, after 0.3 patch devs made a poll where they asked what the remaing community wants more: content or stability. With votes IIRC 4:1 stability has won.
After that there was 0.6 patch, called Gigapatch by devs, where there were 2 maps, few weapons, new vehicles etc. added. Devs even decided to make a freeweekend. And even then there were voices "and u call it Battlefield killer?".
After that there was 0.7 patch where game was migrating from UE 4.19 to 4.21 engine and it did take a longer time than it was expected. It was purely technological patch but try to explain it to ignorant majority that expects to be pleased by constant flow of fancy things. I'll remind: majority doesn't understand what 0.x label in front of game means.
In Fall'19 there was 0.8 patch released. For majority that doesn't play it was another sign that devs do nothing. For those who were playing 0.8 introduced Horizontal recoil that completely changed weapon handling and reworked land vehicles mobility/armor/etc. After 0.8 patch each vehicle has weak and strong points. But those who don't play - don't know. Still, there was a little amount of content added.
Finally: in late December'19 devs show us some fruits of their labor of reworking the movement/animation system. Ppl were complaining about it from the start and for large part somehow it was a big no-no that was/is preventing them from playing WW3. A little reminder: at that time almost everyone from casual crowd was fapping on CoD:MW19 movement and animation. Another note: first messages about movement/animation being reworked appeared on forum BEFORE the first footages of CoD:MW19 have been shown in Spring'19.
So, a little hype about new movement/animation was created. Everyone: when?
Devs: when it is ready(re-read the part about 0.1 and 0.3 patches).
Last reply from devs on official forum was in February'20 and after that they went dead silent for almost 3 months. Silence was broken with announcement that TF51 is now uniting their forces with My.Games in attempt to create even more beautiful game.
First reaction: what, u sold urself to My.Games for it to milk us like it's doing it to Warface players?!!
Dev's reply: All IP rights still belong to us, My.Games part is testing, providing "resources and expertise" etc. What will game look is still up to us and our vision.
How much this "expertise" will affect the final version - I don't know.
Still, devs are prohibited from talking about what they are doing now and what was changed. All the PR are now in My.Games hands and as u see, they are being silent as all the greedy capitalistic swi.... as all the big companies that use info and footages to create hype. So, don't expect any info before the time to create hype will come.
Servers are now too in My.Games hands so it's to be expected that disastrous first day will not happen again.
What we know for sure to be changed:
Movement/animation.
Gunplay changes/attachments rebalancing.
Vehicles fix/rebalancing as there are many modules bugged/broken.
Sound design rework, because ppl were complaining about it even in pre-EA footages.
Rework of current map and their visuals. And no less than 9 total in release version. Maps to be added(seen in testing server list): Tokio-Japan. Katowice - Poland. Dunhuang(Gobi)- China. DMZ DeMilitarized Zone - North- South- Korea border?
There were rumours about New York, though I don't remember where I did see them.
Resuming: current version is almost 1.6 years old content-wise and in these days when ppl demand constant flow of new "something" to be added or otherwise they are unable to play or, to be precise, grind current WW3 is played by ppl who like the game itself without any "buts".
As u see, there were many mis-steps made by devs and if u think that they were done with malicious intent feel free to call them scammers. If u don't think so - u r welcome to wait for release version like some of us do.
