Ok, I'm going to try to help here. If I misunderstand or you need clarification just let me know.

1st the updating objectives is a common mechanic in many turn based strategy games. I suggest going into every battle expecting to have to kill all enemies as you progress to the listed objective.

With that out of the way lets move on the the meat of your issue: Strategy/resource management.

To start with this game the strategy starts before even taking the mission. You need to understand cognition points, armor, weapon types and troops.

Even if you don't want to read the entire thing go through how to get cognition at least to help yourself.

1) Cognition: This fuels everything you do in combat from taking extra moves to summoning support troops to firing any weapon bigger than the starting pistol. So how do you get it? Many ways!

A) Skill tree/roles. Look at the lexmechanic skill tree, one of it's first passives is to grant 1 cognition at the start of that tech priests turn. I recommend having 1 or 2 tech priests with this trait.

B) Canticles - You can have 3 canticles you take into the mission with you that can be used anytime you can make a move. Some of these types will grant 6+ cognition points immediately. Be warned once used it won't replenish until the next mission (not battle).

C) Servo Skulls - Every tech priest has a servo skull it can use for various different things. The most common and useful purpose is to collect cognition points in battle. If you are unable to move your Priest next to a node, you can send your servo skull instead. The same can be done with fallen enemies if you can't get your techpriest to them/finish them off. There is even a skill in the lexmechanic tree that will allow your servoskull from that techpriest to collect all the cognition from a point in 1 go.

D) Servitors - when they take damage they generate 1 cognition and don't cost anything to summon, but will take up a troop slot.

F) Room events - not reliable but some room events will reward cognition points.

Please note any unused cognition from a battle will carry over to the next battle during the same mission.

2) Armor types: You have 2 armor type, yellow and blue. The value on the armor is how much it will absorb from that sorce. So a value of 2 blue means the first 2 damage from a blue damage source will be absorbed and not harm the character. So if you see an enemy with 2 blue armor, and your pistol will only do 1-2 blue... not a good target for that weapon. Use this to help decide what weapons to equip. You'll want a mix of blue/yellow damages across your team.

3) Which brings us to weapon types. As you explore and win you'll get a wide range of weapons that do many different things with various cognition cost. Read the descriptions over carefully. If you are struggling with gathering cognition don't equip the weapon that takes 4 cognition to fire each round. And be sure to vary the damage types up between your group.

4) Troops- think what your squad needs for the mission. Did you get some lucky loot and find a lot of high damage energy weapons? Well maybe you should compliment it by sending in the yellow damage troops this round. Are you strong with range but missing melee? Look into if you have melee troops.

Most troops will cost 2 cognition to deploy at the start of the round, if you don't have the cognition starting the round it won't give you the option. So if you are torn between using 1 of 2 remaining cognition to fire at necron that you may only do 1 damage to with it, or summoning in your skitarri vangaurd that will do 4-6 damage next round..... don't shoot and bring in the vanguard.

So to help win you need to consider all of this while you level up your priest, equip them, deciding what missions to take and what troops to take on them.

I hope this helps.

That is where the servo skulls come into play (point C).

Each tech priest has one, you can activate it to go to cognition points that you can't reach and collect 1 cognition from it. If you level up a techprist in lexmechanic their servo skulls can take all points from a single source.

The levels you are describing usually have 1 or 2 cog nodes that are worth 3 points. Use turn use your lexmechanic to gather 3 points. Do some things and if you kill an enemy you get points from them also. Then turn 2 use your other tech priests to gather them while your lexmechanic is on cooldown.

I would recommend also using at least 1 canticle with cognition generation in case you need a big burst.

that helps bro

I usually devote 2 of my 3 canticles to Cognition generation, helps avoid the situations where you go into the first battle of a mission with zero CP, and it's a map that's light on big CP sources.
