Mechanicus 2: Necrons... again?
Im so happy there is a Mechanicus 2. Hell, i even got aphysical copy of Mechanicus 1 purchased after beating it on Steam cause i just liked it so much.

But... i feel somehow "meh" at the fact Mechanicus 2 enemy are necrons again. Like its more of the same. Somehow i expected that if, Mechanicus 2 ever got developed, the Mechanicus would face a new and different threat, let it be chaos, tyranids, or whatever else.

Sure its nice that this time necrons become playable too, but still, I feel like its a missed opportunity to introduce a new enemy and a totally new experience. More of the same seems... "meh".

Thoughts?

Given how GamesWorkshop parses out the 40k Intellectual Property license to third party contractors, it's entirely likely that Kasedo only has rights to use the Mechanicus and Necron factions, and can only make offhand references to the larger 40k universe. I can almost guarantee this wasn't a game development decision and was entirely a limited licensing one.

eh necrons are still the most interesting for them to go up against with their whole theme being tech yoinking

and other games already did chaos and tyranids as the enemy faction if you want those though the tyranid one was a mobile port that got nuked off of steam

Yep, that may be the reason. So bad it doesn´t makes the outcome better, just understandable. I guess its something, but is also sad.

Sure there are other games with other factions, but I´d like to play Mechanicus, with its pros, cons, and own flavour, mechanics and "idiosincrasy", against those factions. For sure, if the point was just play any game with X faction, there is always Dawn of War and the Unification Mod. (Wich I love)

I've not seen Necrons in any of the other WH40k games, so I find this one kind of unique, so it's not so bad (if it wasn't for the grind...)

Try Dawn of War 1, its quite old bit is a very good RTS, and witj its expansions it features necrons too (the complete pack with all expansions is around 5-6 USD right now I think)

And if you get the Unification mod (for free) ot adds up to more than 20 factions, with not only dofferent units but also unique mechanics. Probably the best "port" of WH40K as strategy game to PC so far.

I have it, but I don't like RTS games, I prefer turn-based strategy ones. I realise there are necrons in some other games like battlesector, but that is DLC content.

there's also necrons in gladius, which is free to keep and you don't even need any of the many DLCs to play them.

Ah cool. I've only played gladius for about an hour, it's okay, but nothing stellar. I might check it out again if I have more time, cheers.

Lorewise, this makes the most sense for the Mechanicus... Theyre always in search of ancient tech, going planet to planet in search of lost archeotech

Honestly I don't mind. Videx is my least favorite character so with the implication that I'll get the chance to kill him in the sequel I'm happy.

In all seriousness though, I dig the necrons and being able to play as them is an interesting prospect.

Honestly I'm all for more of the same, if something is good it's good. And from what I can tell on the steam page there seems to be just a bit more to keep things spicy.

I find it funny how he got the biggest frown ever the whole game, but with his ending he suddenly got a really funny smile.

DoW 1 (Dark Crusade), BFG armada, Gladius relics of war, Battlesector. But yes, mechanicus is unique in a way.
To be honest I'm just glad it's not another nurgle game.

It'd be cool for mechanicus vs tzeentch or something, but man nurgle's faction really gets around.
