Indeed. Multiplayer for this? It'd not even function. Who'd play what and why? It's like taking a SIngeplayer Game and putting Microtransactions into it.

Yea.... no. I'd rather have a really nice, fleshed out singleplayer experience than wasting precious dev time to shoehorn multiplayer into it.

Remember Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate.

The gameplay of this game is suitable for multiplayer.

Multiplayer could be fun. You could have a menu where you make a team with some limit on levels and equipment then queue up for battle.
Maybe not on release, but it would be a nice addition IMO.
Still.... No thank you. And yeah, that old game... was a buggy mess. Do not add multiplayer to this. If it were to be made, it should not be an 'addition', but rather it should be developped with that idea in mind. Kinda like those battleroyal games are made around the function of multiplayer. You wouldn't add a singleplayer campaign to Fortnite, just cuz 'oh wows, fortine is good so it needs singleplayer'. at least that's how a lot of the add-multiplayer requests sounds XD

Personally I don't want multiplayer in this game. While in general it's nice to have MP in games and it's great in 40k games in particular, it is not compulsory for any game. Nowadays it seems MP must be included for a game to be considered even remotely good, and that's just wrong.

There are endless examples of great games that are SP only, and in the majority of those cases it's the SP experience what makes them great because it allows for great inmersion, where MP would feel forced/shoehorned and it would just take development resources from what's actually the core of it (SP). Some very quick examples I can think of are most Mass Effect games, XCOM, Rayman 2 & 3, The Surge, etc. None of them have MP and they honestly don't need it at all. And I believe Mechanicus doesn't need it either.

I have an idea for implementing multiplayer, it doesnt have to come with the game right away but it would be cool to add to extend the life of the game. the way it would essentialy work would be to follow the lore consept of simulation training used by mechanicus skitarii and adepts and to collect data on the best way to use there troops the great adepts of mars started simulations between there forces.

the great data harvest has begun!

MP is a pipe dream anyway - there's no netcode as part of the game, just the default stuff that's built into Unity. Even the best ideas don't mean anything when you don't have a support structure for them. So it doesn't matter if you come up with the coolest justification or storyline that makes MP attractive, the devs just aren't going to get paid by their publishers to implement something that's way outside of the original design doc and requires hundreds of hours of assembly and testing. That's just not how the business works.

Now, if someone managed enough of a fundraiser to hire and employ the studio (and pay the associated licensing and legal fees and all of the other hoops that need to be jumped through), that's another story, but I somehow don't see that happening.

I do agree that the ruleset could be quite interesting for Kill-Team scale engagements, but that's way out of scope.

Would've considered if multiplayer, there's massive untapped potential in a fleshed out turned-based multiplayer RTS in the market. Oh well, at least Vermintide was fun.
