The gameplay of this game is suitable for multiplayer.
Maybe not on release, but it would be a nice addition IMO.
There are endless examples of great games that are SP only, and in the majority of those cases it's the SP experience what makes them great because it allows for great inmersion, where MP would feel forced/shoehorned and it would just take development resources from what's actually the core of it (SP). Some very quick examples I can think of are most Mass Effect games, XCOM, Rayman 2 & 3, The Surge, etc. None of them have MP and they honestly don't need it at all. And I believe Mechanicus doesn't need it either.

Now, if someone managed enough of a fundraiser to hire and employ the studio (and pay the associated licensing and legal fees and all of the other hoops that need to be jumped through), that's another story, but I somehow don't see that happening.
I do agree that the ruleset could be quite interesting for Kill-Team scale engagements, but that's way out of scope.
