Explore the whole tomb or go the fastest route?
Hi guys,

I'm just curious and wondering, which is the better thing to do.
In "tomb exploration map" you always have the choice to explore every room, in hope you get some nice bonuses from the "explanation mark" or the "glyph rooms". But that is raising the tomb alert level.

Well on easier missions, it isn't a problem to have a tomb awakening level 3 or 4 with more necrons ect. It is pretty managable.

BUT
I'm wondering.....since the "tomb awakening level is also added to the "Necron awakening level" of the campaign, i'm not sure if the bonuses like extra blackstone or found gear is worth the extra awakening progress in the campaign.

Is it worth exploring the tombs, or is it more worth missing out on some potential rewards just to keep the awakening level advancing as slowly as possible?

Just found a similar post.
As far as I see from that post, most people say that it is more worth to rush the tombs and do more missions than explore more rooms in one tomb.

If you rush you will finish in 3 alert levels. If you explore everything you will finish in 5 alert levels. More alert levels = potentially less missions to play.

Why? Because I reach the "Necron Awekening progress" faster, and it is game over when it goes to 100%?
(Something like that annoying "world end progress" in X-Com 2? )

It is worse, in X-COM2 if bar fills up you should do a mission to decrease bar that you can do endless times. In Mechanicus you should fight final boss with all bosses you didn't beat.

Ah so you are forced too? I see. I read somewhere that above a certain % in the awekening bar, the enemies become stronger, and the bosses will be available to fight them. But i didn't knew that you HAVE TO beat them before 100%

Thx for the infos. Very useful :)

You should have the option of lowering the awakening though, by accessing those caches that give BlackStone, and then destroying them. That should lower the awakening and compensate a bit.

I read elsewhere that it's more benificial to get as many loot as possible from tombs. Either way, I'm about to find out. :-) I'll probably have some more playthroughs after my first to test the difference.

Yeah, i'm also on my 1st playthrough. I'm doing my 10th mission and already on 23% awakening.
I also had in mind to maybe run through the tomb tiles which have an explanation mark above them, and pick those choice options where you can see the green tomb icon.
(if you press ESC and go into difficulty settings, you can enable the "Enhanced exploration" option, which will show you a small hint icon for the choices what will that choice affect)
The "tomb icon choices are affecting the awakening level of a tomb. But as often i reload the save at these points, it is always....ALWAYS affecting the awakening level in a negative way if the icon is paired with a 2nd icon. If the tomb icon is alone without any other 2nd option, it can give you a positive result too.

But this is just an observation i made in the past 2-3 hours.

It is absolutely worth it to check and loot everything.
1) The extra blackstone and tech are too good to pass up.
2) In later missions with upgraded priests and multiple consoles to smash, you can end many of the later missions with less than 1% awakening.

1) And how do you know that you will even get tech or blackstone? If you pick wrong choice you could get absolutely nothing for 0.4 alarm increase. It absolutely NOT worth on very hard ironman.
2) That if you will minmax and it is doubtful on his first run.

1) Why would he be doing his very first run on very hard ironman? Even if you can't/won't save-scum a bit, there is both Enhanced Exploration and an event guide or two. Or, barring all that, you can turn events off entirely in Options and rush through the tombs as much as you want.
2) It's not too hard to optimize your cohort once you get past the early game and learn your units' roles and equipment. I DID get everything on my first run (albeit on Normal).
3) If you want to rush, or indeed find it more cost-effective, I can't stop you. To each his own.

Most likely you will use 1-2 gun types on everyone, preferably dealing pure damage. Exploration is nearly useless, because new guns rarely worth using.

Haha i'm not my own enemy. I never play hardest difficulty at the beginning. Only when i already know the game.
But yes you are right, i observed that I'm still using the same 2 guns which I got pretty early on.
