Was the encounter with the Destroyer lord in the first mission supposed to be a loss?

In the tutorial you mean? It doesn't matter I think. But you should be able to escape pretty easily.

just keep running in a circle while dropping a little helper in its path each round and you can even kill that Destroyer Lord before the 6th turn.

I did kill him, but I felt like I was cheesing the game kind of. Thus I was curious if I was supposed to win.

Victory conditions say survive, not kill. Congrats on killing it at that point in the game though, good work.

Did it gave something to you for Killing him?
For example Card with prayer that is given for killing a boss?

I manged to strike him for 10 HP (out of 40) and then time ended, and my team got evacuated.

You get no reward for killing him.

Matters not. Only thing it gains you to kill him is the early achievement, but nothing changes. Dialogue is the same.

It's kind of a shame that no matter how much you earn in the tutorial you only end up with the same 300 blackstone as if you had skipped it. So there's no real incentive to do it at all.
