but for me it was the other way arround, it was way too easy at launch, and then i have kind of lost it because of it. and that was on the hardest difficulty.
i am currently downloading it again to see if something has changed, or if they added something that makes it at least a little challenging.
The tutorial doesn't give you the whole story, just like XCOM does. The tutorial actually sets you up for a more difficult start, though you would never know if you don't check out a non-spoilery guide.
One thing I'm noticing a few missions in is that there's no "Hit Chance," just damage ranges. Necrons seem to have fairly simple AI to get baited, assuming you don't get screwed by RNG reinforcement spawns.
Also, the weapon slots have 2 ranged slots, 1 melee slot. Each weapon has its own cooldown. I coulda been playing with a dual wielding sniper priest with that first +4 range, the melee priest with additional ranged before closing in.
Learning Cognition economy I think is also gonna be important. When to scan and reveal protections, when to grab an extra point, when to deploy damage sponges.
Bottom line: expect to lose a lot before you begin to win. Once you find out the mechanics and make them work for you, the game becomes palatable.
Later on the abilities get absolutely broken and I find myself OTK'ing encounters (I'm playing on +50% enemies and +25% enemy health). And this is absolutely not because I'm such a good player or whatever, I just have a whole lot of CP generation and thus can use my expensive weapons every turn.
There's also Benediction which fully heals your party every 3 turns. You can use it unlimited number of times. And it costs (1). I can't even imagine losing a fight now that I have this ability.
If you were replying to me, I've already seen Lynchguard and I suspect am at the verge of the ending (I'm at 97% awakening). 8 damage is not much when you can heal for 10 every turn (and full heal every third). I also find it pretty funny to make a train of tech priests and then lure a lynchguard into a chain of opportunity attacks, though they are definitely the toughest enemy in the game. (I suspect that includes the final boss, if the other bosses are anything to go by)
Fun fact you can beat the final boss with one secutor and a meat squad of servitors with minimal casualties. You can also do it for every other boss, though I have not done that yet.
I'm slightly confused. This game is insanely easy on default. I am not talking "get gud" easy, I genuinely have been cake walking my way thru this game so I am confused how anyone can say its hard.
The beginning was slightly tricky cause I just didn't have any gear but around the time I got my 3rd Tech Priests the game only got easier.
Like what exactly are you having problems with? I think once I understood how to abusing getting CP in large amounts (allowing me to spam abilities) not much has been a challenge. You can either 1 shot most enemies or buff a trooper enough to do it in 1 turn.
The first 3 bosses I killed before they even got one turn. (not done with the game yet so maybe the last ones are harder)
I have never lost a single Tech priest. (come close a couple of times tho)
Partly what has helped me a lot has been the CP spikes (Cognition Mechadendrite) but they can get you CP at melee range. They work on downed Necrons and Scan nodes. If you have the rank 2 versions you can get like 6 CP after downing 1 necron. So you can dumb CP then get it right back.
Also abusing Troopers has been doing work. First class I maxed was the Secutor. Long as you have decent CP he can do some serious work. Being able to summon a troop at any location has been real strong when used right. (plus it acts immediately after you do, so you can summon then buff it for a really strong 1 shot attack)
The Ranged guys that can double tap at insane ranges are literally broken at LvL 2. Couple of buffs and a "ignore armor" buff an they will drop anything in 1 turn. Once they hit level 3 forget about it. Their range and movement is so good they can move in, shoot, move back and the enemy can't get into range to fire back. (assuming you have the room to run away)
Like if you need some specific tips I'd be happy to help. This game is really fun once you understand what to do.
