Is there any point to Cognition Mechadendrite?
This tool seems to be able to collect a cognition point in melee range from an object that generally grants a cognition point. But tech priests automatically collect cognition points when they're in melee range of an object that grants a cognition point. Am I missing something? In any case, the item description is very lackluster.

I personally find it incredibly useful. It allows you to get a cognition point from enemies, while they are alive or downed, or even from the consoles that you scan or destroy. It's works very well for a melee built techpriest, as they're already going to be getting that close anyway, but it also works well on on a ranged techpriest if you pair it with the infestus mechadendrite. With it, you can move your ranged priest into melee range, grab your cognition point, then push the enemy back with the infestus to open them up for a ranged attack. Keep in mind the infestus can't push back the big boys like destroyers, however.

Thanks, I agree that the item is a lot more useful than I initially thought. But the game really has a problem with not explaining its mechanics properly.

Yes you are missing lots. Cognition Mechadentrites are literally THE BEST augment in the game. Bar none. Walk up to enemy with two of them, smack that enemy twice for free Cognition for days them smack with your axe. They only get better once upgraded.

You could equip your tech priests with two level 3 mechadendrites each later on granting them 6 free cognition each, it becomes very useful later on, considering you will be able to have much movement or use weapons which need much cognition, to never worry about cognition, even level 1 cognition mechadendrites are useful.
They are basically my favorite mechadendrites.

Even on a ranged character they are useful, if you give your ranged character 3 levels in explorator they aren't affected by oppurtunity attacks anyway, all my tech priests get at least 3 levels in explorator, otherwise if you don't like to multiclass everyone 3 levels as explorator , you can still give 1 cognition mechadendrite + 1 of the mechadendrites which do a bit of physical damage and have knockback, to not be affected by oppurtunity attacks.
