Awakening levels 2 and 4
How do they work, exactly?

Is it a case of:

1) You go in to battle at level 2 or 4 and more necrons will already be there

2) you go in to battle at level 2 or 4 and more necrons will spawn in over time

Additionally, how does console destruction impact these additional necrons?

If I go in sub level 2, will there be less there, but more will spawn in once it hits 2?

If I am in battle, and destroy a console, dropping below level 2, and then it rises to level 2 again, does that mean I just triggered even more spawns? If so, does that mean that constantly destroying consoles, dropping the alert below and it rising above 2 several times means a horde of enemies?

Anyone have some clarification on causality rules?

I think the Extra Necrons In Battle (which also relates to the difficulty modifier) merely affects:
- starting Necrons
- Necrons that arrive in 'waves' (think the packs of Flayed Ones that can turn up occasionally)

So, if you're in battle and all the Necrons that will be there are there, and you trigger all the additional Necrons!, that won't actually affect your current battle at all - if any waves pop up, there'll be more, and in your next battle, there will be additional Necrons, but not at the moment.

I think these are unaffected by Additional Necrons in Battle:
- Necrons combing out of tombs mid-battle
--- it's possible that in the next battle, more Necrons will come out of their tombs
- when waves of enemies arrive
--- though how many Necrons are in the wave is affected

This has entirely been guesswork & playing around with the Additional Necrons in Battle difficulty setting.

Pretty sure the tombs that awaken are tied to awakening level. I've had it happen a few times where as soon as I hit 2 awakening during a combat sequence that a bunch of tombs open up and more Necrons come out.

In places with flayed ones, this will often trigger more flayed ones as well. Although those tend to generally spawn at certain intervals anyway, so that could be a coincidence.

I really wish they had tied awakening into the mechanics a bit better - by which I mean not just in the actual battles, but in the rest of the mission. For example, instead of a bunch of static locations which you know about from mission start, at awakening 1 there should be a new Necron group that spawns and hunts your group down. At higher awakening levels, this group should get bigger (and/or more groups should spawn), and they should be tougher than the usual groups such that fighting them is a really bad idea. It would improve the game massively, adding a much-needed sense of urgency beyond keeping awakening down just so we can play more missions (although that aspect should also remain).
