Torsion cannon vs heavy grav cannon
So am I missing something or is one of these a straight upgrade to the other? The heavy grav cannon sounds like it does more damage for the same number of CP and same number of equip slots.

Does the torsion cannon do anything better?

I assume it's pretty good on the battle robot due to robot weapons seeming to cost zero CP.

Torsion Cannon has more damage, Grav Cannon has more range. Both are absurdly OP because of their ridiculous blast radius more than the actual damage numbers. Even if the damage were 1-2 like a Phosphor Blast Pistol, you could still combine Rites of Range, a pair of Energeia Enhancers, Overzealous, and Benediction of Omniscience and deal 19-20 damage to everything in a radius with one and clear the room, you'd just need to work harder at it.

There is less of a marked difference now than in the prievous patches.

However you still can absolutely self nuke if you do not realize one of your guys is in blast range.

Heavy grav cannon has better regular stats, but Torsion does not require line of sight and can shoot through walls.

It is also less prone to friendly fire.

Wait... so the heavy grav cannon needs line of sight to hit the first enemy but the torsion cannon can hit even the first enemy through walls? Do I understand correctly?

If so I need to install the Torsion cannon to break the game even more.

Not to necro (pun) the thread, but it seems there have been several patches.

Currently, on my loadout screen the stats are as follows:

[
Torsion Cannon
5 cog cost, targeted AOE ignoring walls, 5-7 dmg, Spirit +3 dmg, 3 aug slots - energy dmg

Heavy Grav Cannon
5 cog cost, targeted AOE ignoring walls, 5-7 dmg, Spirit +3 dmg, 3 aug slots - energy dmg
]

By my reckoning, they are exactly the same now. The only thing I can think of is differences in AOE radius, since that isn't listed in the tool tip, or range, for the same reason.

Can anyone illuminate the differences in these weapons currently?

Afaik, the Heavy Grav Cannon has wider AoE.
Which is great for cleaning up a room in a single attack, your TPs included.

Follow the recipie for lul damage (>50 damage with one attack in AoE):
- Use both the canticle for Max Machine Spirit and + Flat Damage (+15 when upgraded),
- cast Sanctum canister (+3 damage) and self bless (+2 damage)
- Equipe your TP with the lvl 3 invisibility tool: not only he/she is untargettable, but his/her first shot will always be a crit (so it will bypass armor).
-Be outside the AoE (important, the AoE is usually half the map at least)
-?
-The Omnissiah is pleased.

Yeah, I did that on the flayer pack kill mission, it was glorious.

I first had my melee guy run through the entire room to scan all 4 consoles and retreat back to safe distance, then I let rip with a room sized torsion. I didn't have everything you suggested, but I had enough. All 10 flayers dead, 4 consoles busted, awakening level dropping by 8 notches, all on turn one.

Here is the range the Torsion had, if it seems smaller or bigger than the grav -

Looks like Torsion radius is 11 tiles out from center.

I checked: they have the same AoE (11 and half tiles radius). They are the same weapon.

Oooof. Nerfed to conformity, lol.

They could have made either of them do physical damage instead and called it a day, lol

From my experiences, Torsion can be fired through walls, Grav Cannon needs line of sight to the initial target.

Which would mean the Torsion is a pure upgrade. Like how some body parts are like, you have a choice between 2HP and 2m walk, or 3HP and 3m walk, lol.

Can confirm: I had to almost finish my current game to have both unlocked, and torsion cannon doesn't require LOS to target, only range.

Came to the forums to check whether my game is bugged or they are exactly the same. Kinda lame that the reward for beating the DLC is just a reskin.
