Im loving it.
This game also links to nothing else
Same as you. I know just the very tip of the 40k lore and i am enjoying the hell out of this so far.
If i were you, just watch a quick 7 or 10 min video on who the Adeptus Mechanicus are, it will help with the dialog between the main characters but is not necessary.
The developers have outdone themselves. The Mechanicus Order ist a fine choice for the player faction because they represent the dark, superstitious and inhumanist science fiction nature of the WH40k universe perfectly. If you know nothing about this world, then this game is a perfect introduction. If you know something already, you will enjoy the lore and the characters all the same.
I'd go so far as to say Mechanicus is the single best WH40k game when it comes to immersion, story, and lore presentation.
Most games are one-offs by random developers and are their own enclosed little parts of the 40K universe that have nothing to do with each other.
The game is really immersive.
The way they talk, their mannerism, everything is so well done, it can be sometimes exhausting to listen to.
Okay, then I'll watch even more videos. :)

At least the short introduction, if you don't want to read the hole article. I recommend to learn about the Mechanicus only after you know what WH40K is about, which is The Emperor, what was the Horus Heresy and that. A couple google searching and like 10 minutes reading may suffice.
Anyway probably not necesary, but who knows, maybe you enjoy it too.
If you ended up loving the game and the lore, maybe we have won another WH40K adept, hehehe. I started in this thing with one old game, and ended up liking the lore a lot and reading some books about different factions etc. I enjoy this thing a lot. And there are a lot of WH40K lore videos out there too.
One example of many is this Adeptus Mechanicus video, from the Imperium of Man Lore series of a Youtuber:

Thank you Valmar, I'll check it out!
