>>> FAQ <<<
Q: How long is this game?
A: Your first playthough should last between 1-2 hours. You can come back to find alternative routes, secrets, and compete for high scores on every level.

Q: Can I play the game with a gamepad?
A: No, the game was designed from the start for keyboard and mouse.

Q: Can I rebind keys?
A: Yes, hold CONTROL on Windows or OPTION on Mac to open the launch config dialog. From there click on "Input" and double click any key you want to rebind.

Q: Will the game have multiplayer?
A: The game is and will stay single player only.

Q: Will the game come out for Linux?
A: Our plan is to make a Linux version down the road, but with no exact date yet.

Q: How do I use a custom player face?
A: Right click on High Hell on your steam library, go to PROPERTIES > LOCAL FILES > BROWSE LOCAL FILES. On this folder, add a image named " face.png " . Go to the options menu and toggle CUSTOM PLAYER FACE on. WARNING: Do not use a picture of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Q: Ew chromatic aberration, can I turn it off?
A: Yes, in the options menu, set COLOR BLEEDING to 0.

Q: My computer is really old, how do I make the game run as fast as possible?
A: Try disabling the LIGHTS and MIRRORS in the options menu. Maybe cap the FPS at 30 too.

Q: What is GLOBAL HIGHSCORE on the LEVEL SELECT screen?
A: That value is all the levels' highscores summed up. If you have beaten the game there will be a time under it that is all the levels' fastest times summed up.

Q: What are these all these leaderboards?
A: "Highscores Level 0-20" are individual HIGHSCORE leaderboards for each level.
"Highscores All Levels" is a leaderboard for you GLOBAL HIGHSCORE (see above).
"Fastest Time All Levels Summed" are for the sum of all the fastest times on every level. You can replay levels in every order at any time to lower your fastest sum time.
"Fastest Time Speedrunning" is your best time starting the game from level 0 all the way to the ending scene, without quitting or cheating. Dying and restarting is OK. Cutscene, mission briefing and pauses do not count towards your speedrun time.

Q: I found this DMEN doll laying around, what is it for?
A: Those are mine, DON'T TOUCH THEM.

I don't see anything in a footage that wouldn't work with gamepad.
Is the game require a lot of text typing or something? Keyboard is alphanumerical input device after all. I like analog movement in shooters.
If you are so hellbent on 'pc dudes play on laptops' or something, why don't you properly support Steam Controller then? It has precision of a mouse.

As nice as gamepad support would be (I play Heavy Bullets with a gamepad just fine) a Steam Controller configuration will be really easy to make for this.

I do agree that the game could atleast have partial controller support for people who have physical ailments/disabilities and people who prefer gamepad. I think they are more 'hellbent' on marketing the game to the 'hardcore' FPS crowd (unfortunate for anyone who plays using gamepads, for those people reading this my advise is to get a Steam Controller, they are really flexible with all the configurations you can make because they give you a lot of options).

I like gamepads just fine, but I would have to slow down the game a lot for it work well with a gamepad and I don't want to do that. Aiming with a thumbstick is just not fast enough. Steam Controllers on my experience don't emulate a mouse well enough for a twitchy FPS.

Have you tried lowering in game sensitivity and raising the Steam Controller's sensitivity? I know it sounds weird but you will get a better response from the trackpad, and don't neglect the advanced options like mouse smoothing, edge-spin, trackball mode, and trigger dampening. Some of those sound odd but they are very useful, you just need to find the right setup, experimenting is part of the fun and feels really good when you get everything toned just right.

I haven't played your game yet, but from what. I've seen I can't see a reason why it wouldn't work with a thumbstick, just add a sensitivity slider and that's it!
Trust me I play even Quake 3 Arena with a gamepad and it works great with that high speed gameplay, it works great for the classic and new Doom too, so why not adding controller support and adding a warning on the start up: "Keyboard and mouse recommended for optimal gameplay" just like super meat boy does suggesting the use of a controller :D

BS on both. I've seen way faster shooters with proper controller support. FFS original Quake 1-2 works with gamepad just fine and they aren't any slower paced games. You are limiting playerbase, add options and let people choose instead.
The point is how acceleration and speed curves are tuned. Not to mention that it's a singleplayer game, add some slight aim assist and call it a day.

Steam Controller emulates mouse enough that there is even people playing CSGO with it. C'on, just tell us 'we have no experience in implementing proper gamepad controls and we thought no one will bother on PC and all, forgive us please', we'd understand. But this 'twitch shooter' is lame excuse, because there is a lot of twitch shooters that work with gamepads just fine.

I worked on gamepads and thought it didn't play well. Its not an excuse I'd rather have no support than bad support.

Oh well, that's a bummer! Your game looks very fun but I don't like to limit my gameplay to keyboard and mouse only, I like to have the option to get away from the desk, sit on the couch and keep playing laid back on a bigger screen. Also judging by the gameplay videos I still think a controller would work as great as some other fast paced shooters and TBH when I play with keyboard and mouse I'm worst than playing with a controller, and please remember that I like to play Quake 3 Arena with a controller and while I'm not an ace I certainly don't suck at it and am above avarege even versus k&m players, but you are the dev, it's your call to add features or not.
I'll wait for a bigger sale in the future to reconsider if will ever buy or pass this one instead of buying it right now.
Anyway, thanks for your reply on the topic.

Trying to add a custiome face, opened up game files and placed the .png in the first list of files that shows the .exe and the file folder, then tried placing the .png into the file folder itself. What am I doing wrong? Cause it doesnt bring up the option to toggle
terrivellmann  [developer] Oct 26, 2017 @ 1:49am
its needs to be exactly "face.png", is that what you did?
dkns Nov 12, 2017 @ 7:19pm
I too am not able to load the face.png option whatsoever. I did the above steps as mentioned above, and similar to Macaroni Ketchup, I did exactly what he did as well. To be of note, the image is titled "face.png" exactly as it should. Any advice here would be gladly appreciated!

Thanks!

I installed the game but it don't start. There is just a little window on the taskbar (seems that it's running) but when I click on it, I just here the sound of the game and see my desktop.
What is the problem?

sorry, not sure what could be causing it, maybe try running it as administrator? possibly it doesn't have access to your files somehow
