What is YOUR take on VOIP Moderation?

I made this discussion after having a conversation about it in a lobby, which had a mixed reception; some were for it while others were against it. It was a surprisingly civil debate.

I think the moderation is excessive but I can SOMEWHAT understand it. One of the game’s main attributes is VOIP and literally 80% of the lobbies are very vocal; some people can be turned off from experiencing ‘toxic’ behaviour which is somewhat understandable. However, I think the line between what’s acceptable and what isn’t in this game is becoming more blurred and vague.

Broken Circle’s take is something I whole-heartedly agree with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlsPQExGLxo&ab_channel=BrokenCircle and we also see SgtOkiDoki’s response as well (in the comments), which brings in another question: is a game ban necessary compared to a mute suspension, or justified?

Id be curious to what you all think.

Here's a pole made by Trenkos on what the penalty for a VOIP "Infraction" should be

I genuinely believe moderation is pointless as you can easily just mute whoever you like, and shouldn't even be a thing

I'm for it. If it's something you couldn't say in person without fear of repercussions, why allow it in your game? There was a time when people were more civil with one another, before they could hide behind a keyboard and monitor and spew vitriol with no repercussions. Consequences are what shape human behavior. Nothing more, nothing less.

Since the people who've been getting banned are pretty much just the ones that just scream slurs directed at everyone for the sole purpose of getting a negative reaction I don't really care that the terms are vague. If they want to throw a fit like a child then they can get put in time out like a child.

I also act and speak like an adult, I haven't been banned, or warned, occasionally I'll poke fun at someone who is raging over this game but I don't call them slurs or tell them to off themselves. It's an extremely basic concept and if they aren't mature enough to understand it then the game is better off without their presence affecting other people's enjoyments.

It's fine for official servers but should be disabled for community servers

Video game chat shouldn't be moderated. Muting exists.

Developers should start using AI to detect hate speech and ban players accordingly. I hope that's where gaming is headed in the near future.
You can say literally every bit of foul mannerism in existence as long as you don't say some racist stuff tbh.

Hell you can even name drop actual mental disorders without being punished, there are no guidelines around sexism either it seems.

People are basically making fake outrage for attention.

Moderation is indeed pointless in a game like this outside of extreme scenarios. This game is by far the most aggregious I've ever seen in my life. Its not good. Granted, nobody talks in games like battlefield either, so turning it all of isnt that bad I guess. Just unfortunate that activist devs have created another anti social game. Would've been nice to have a social mmofps lite game for once.

What another anti social game where I've seen soooo many talking to each other and having fun just don't be racist and the game is vary fun and social game indeed.

I think it works like it did in custom servers back in the BF2 days. You report someone to an admin with a recording or screenshot of them being toxic and the admin does the rest.
Just like you report people in this with a small explanation of what happened. A recording is viewed/listened to/whatever... and the admin does the rest.
It's their servers, so their rules.
The rules around which word is or isn't allowed don't HAVE to be written down imho.

If i had my own server, which i probably will in the future, I will be enforcing the same rules.
Maybe you get 1 warning if it's not too bad, but if i spectate you and you pull off enough racism/toxicity in voice chat, you're gonna get banned instantly without a warning.
I've owned servers before, i have kicked/banned many people over the years. Toxicity is only funny till you get banned from a server that all your friends are still enjoying.

It's not, they record all voice comms and listen to them all day. It's very egregious

they only listen to people who are reported, they don't listen to 'all voice comms".

And what expectations are those? There's no way to know what is and isn't "safe" to say; IDK about other people, but I try to keep as quiet as possible in-game because there's no way to know if I'll get 15 dollars voided for saying "c-nt", "b-tch", or "autism" (words that other people in other pro-global moderation games have been banned for saying).

In my opinion, even outright malicious speech (e.g. doxxing) shouldn't void your purchase, just mute you permanently. I don't think anyone would complain if that was the case.
