Couple of questions about gameplay. How to throw and backpack capacity

The weight carrying capacity of my backpack seems to randomly change during the game. Is this intended? Also, How do you throw an axe at someone?

It says MMB while blocking, but MC just throw another rock instead.

If we are talking about the Viking Perk, I also could not throw my weapon. My questions: Does active block mean "While blocking an actual attack" or does it mean "while holding down the block key/button" ? Anyway, spartan also did not work as well as some of the combos against: bandits and animals alike.
