Okay, ta. Nice that you respond so quickly....and.....thoroughly enjoying this game...nice one.

Simply put, I believe you use them when you want to request products on a warehouse far away. The truck depot handles the transfer with bigger trucks.

Okay, so here's a couple of questions then...

1. Am I correct in assuming that I'd place a truck depot next to a resource or production point that is too far for the warehouse to auto collect?

2. The scenario being that town A has the resources and production points to make the goods that town B needs. Can I use a truck depot to transport between two warehouses that are in different towns?

1. You could do that, but early on it might be cheaper to just eat the cost of using trucks directly from the resource area (set a manual destination to warehouse), than using a depot - which costs money to have (since you need two to form a trade route) even though each truck is cheaper.

2. This is where Depots and Terminal come in, yes. Long distance hauling. Larger trucks/trains/etc and generally cheaper than using direct destinations.

I feel like the response here is not very clear on the differences between using tuck depots vs having your good delivered via the wearhouse.
Do the trucks the depots use have higher storage for shipping perhaps?

I see the AI uses truck depots and even places them next to warehouses. Why?

I just tried to set up a little test.......

Coal mine 1, Warehouse 1, Warehouse 2, Train depot 1, Train depot 2.

Coal mine 1, Warehouse 1 and Train depot 1 are connected by roads at Location A.

Many tiles away are Warehouse 2 and Train depot 2 at Location B.

Location A and B are connected by rail.

I cannot get Warehouse 1 to send to Warehouse 2. Warehouse 1 collect plenty of coal but insists on sending coal trucks miles across the map, even though the train depot 1 is right next door and connected to the destination by rail.

As 'The Master Penguin' says....I need to have a look at some guides.

This may help for beginners, but there are questions in this thread not addressed by this video.

Keep in mind that Trade Routes are more cost-efficient than regular routes *only if transporting goods more than 75 tiles*.
