English translation is poorly done, switch audio to Russian
I see this being raised here and there, with some explanations given mostly in the comments, so I wanted to summarize this, because I want more people to be able to enjoy this game and not cringe themselves to death (like I almost did).

First of all: I'm a native Russian speaker, but I'm fluent in English and use it in every day life as well as my thought process. Russian version of anything (games, movies, series, books etc) is never my first choice, because I've long been disappointed in the quality of Russian voice acting.

That said, I started this game in English. I played first hour in English and was majorly disappointed in the game. I do feel all of the complains about it. I cringed myself almost to death while flying in Turbine - that witty exchange with the glove was painful to listen.

So I switched to Russian and started over.

It made the whole world of difference.

In Russian P-3 is genuinely annoyed at the glove in the beginning. There is nothing witty in their exchange. Even the voice (+intonations) is more fitting to a rough and not very bright soldier in Russian version, compared to English.

As far as I know the translation was made by a fully Russian team, which was a mistake in my opinion. The English translation, when putting it near the Russian original text, does not feel like how a native English speaker would express themselves about those things.

Another small thing, which is just a representation of an overall not a very accurate translation: I don't know what they were thinking translation a very rude "ёбаные пироги" to "crispy critters" that sounds more like smth a 5-grader would say. Honestly, smth like "f***ing c**t-nuggets" would be more accurate.

But anyway.

Even if you don't understand Russian, I highly advise you to change your audio to Russian and read English subtitles. This way you will at least hear in what tone whatever you are reading is being said - trust me, it draws a completely different picture.

tl;dr: English translation and voice acting is very different from the original mood of the Russian text and voice acting. If you feel that what you hear in English makes you cringe - this is not intended, but was lost in translation. Change your audio to Russian to get a much better picture.

Audio language can be changed in the Main Menu (before you start the game).

Thanks for this - if I buy the game I'll remember this. Due to various issues I use subtitles no matter the language, but I prefer to hear anything in the native language because I've done translation work and know that there are many out there that don't do proper translation.

Ой, да на русском тоже есть не попадания в озвучке. Кто Зину озвучивал? Не в тему. Какой-то непонятный персонаж на мой взгляд, озвучка так вообще добивает. Может, так специально сделали.. Не знаю. Да и какая она бабка? Совсема не похожа на образ бабы Зины, бабушки, бабки... Игра супер...если что.

согласна, русская озвучка не идеальна тоже (впрочем тут как раз ничего нового), но английская просто кринжатина сплошная

Russian sounds rough and cold to outsiders. But it is one of the most beautiful languages in the world. And that's why my second round will definitely be played in Russian.

It's like watching anime. To capture the essence of the story and feeling, you have to watch it in Original VO.

However i did noticed that English Nora, sounds much more lustful than Russian one. Of course this could be the cause of watching too much western p... erm movies which are more open about adding unnecessarily scenes to trigger the interest. While everyone knows there was no Sex in Soviet Union.

Also i really like Tereshkova English voice. With her weird movements makes her a very silly characters.

yeah true

She does, yeah. In Russian she is more creepy-murderous-lustful rather than just super lustful I think.

Unfortunately (or mb fortunately) I already forgot how Tereshkova sounded in English, but she annoyed the ♥♥♥♥ out of me in both languages xD But I think that was intentional anyway xD

I may be wrong, but in the English version, the main character has the Crane voice from Dying Light?

I switched to russian halfway through, didnt really enjoy it.
Character talk still way too much.
I didnt understand anymore what they were talking about, but they were still voiceline spamming like there is no tomorrow.

And a solution where I do not understand the story anymore but still have to listen to voiceline spam nonstop is no real solution ;)

Then I rather disable the dialogue entirely.

Yeah, tried the Russian and with the amount of talking, it was hard to keep up - the subs would disappear too quickly in some cases. I decided to try the English, but no matter what the actual setting says - it still plays in Russian *GRONK*

Ahhh - figured out you can't switch the spoken language in-game, have to do it at the main menu. Yeah, the English is bad, but with the amount of dialog being spoken it makes it easier to concentrate on fighting/observing instead of reading.

Not only that but P-3's English VA sounds edgy and also a little stilted. His tone is just so much more aggressive and almost whiny- like tf is your deal?
I actually don't mind the English VO. Whenever someone annoys the main character and has him do a bunch of things, he gets PO'd. It didn't bother me. "Crispy Critters" even grew on me. When he called someone a "turd" or something, that was a bit juvenile and dumb, however.

Overall, though, I think it's been a bit overblown, as has the complaints about the open environments and the cameras. If you want, you can disable them via the Hawk. But honestly, it's super easy to scan for cameras, stay out of their way, and move a bit more quietly throughout the environment. Just keep on the move.

Granny Zina in Russian VO still sounds pretty bad. She doesn't even sound like a granny.

But overall this problem pretty much applies to all games that have something to do with Russia. The dialect and the humor are too different and sometimes impossible to translate into English. They also have a habit of either speaking Rusgrish, or having the most stereotypical accent, or just speaking Murrican.

Imagine STALKER SoC bandits with their legendary quotes translated into English. It simply will not work.

Metro, STALKER, War Thunder, this game... Rus audio only.
