♥♥♥♥, people taste changed in time I guess. It was one of the more hated things in the past.
I hated backtracking with passion, since the first 3D shooters.
Of course as always it is matter of implementation, but more often than not it did suck.
Bioshock 2 was better because it did its own thing. Plus Minerva's Den was good.
(and i'm one with a Book of Grudges)
For a game from an unknow studio, it still is an honest work (insert "it ain' much, but ..." meme), on stable builds (like console) graphisms are gorgeous, and the setting is alien enought to be original/intresting/cool - and full of vistas, visuals, details.
Has a load of flaws, and slav jank. main chara being very vocal and obnoxious is ... the obvious, and then = nitpick as much as you want and need, as each have personnal preferences, tastes, and sensibilities. But at the end of the day : honest entry.
Dev team is what, 100 peeps ? AA territory then ?
Other than that Atomic Heart is better.
Open world, art style, animation, melee combat, enemy design, setting, graphics....etc
The bossfights are also more well crafted.
On the other side, the dialogue is more cringe in Atomic Heart and its also not as polished, because it doesnt have the same amount of funding, gazprom money or not.
