Extra power cell not charging

Hi all,

So I got the energy density upgrade to give me an additional power cell (from 3 to 4), but the new one simply will not charge, so I'm still left with 3. Does anyone know if this is a bug or am I missing something that I need to do charge more than 3 cells?

I am also wondering the same question. It feels weird that it does not charge.

Using melee attacks and stealth kills charges it. As well as some abilities and items.

Thanks for the replies everyone, it was very helpful. I've now updated a decent melee weapon to build up the extra cells. I think the energy density upgrades should have made it clear that they wouldn't charge on their own, as I might not have chosen it that early in the game, but not to worry. Hopefully this helps others who also find that confusing.

I also have the bug, recharging with consumable works, but once depleted they still dont auto recharge.

Kinda impacting bug, as the auto electro gun really needs this upgrade

Its cause its a bug. The fact that they recharge only with that upgrade doesnt seem much intended. Description says they add extra cells, and those auto recharge

I think it just does somehow skip the bug, and finally activate automatic recharge.

There is another extra cell upgrade on the left side of the energy tree, opposite of the containment one, so if you go left side only / are ok with 4 energy cells, that 4th one is still bugged and not recharging, so doesnt seem like its working fine.

But the workaround is learning that containment skill, so the additional ones recharge, ofc. Still, to get there its like an additional 500 or 600 polymer than just unlocking the extra cell, so its kinda costly, I had to unlearn many skills just to get the containment one so it could recharge.

It’s not a bug. You need Energy Containment for the extra energy cells to auto regen.

Yeah, it's not so much a bug as the game does an incredibly bad job of communicating what certain powers/nodes do and how they work, or outright aren't accurate.

Take for instance "Overload and Destabilize" for Polymeric Shield and "Energy Vampire" for Mass Telekinesis. The former's description states:

"Deploying Polymeric Shield at full capacity then retracting it causes an explosion that sprays enemies with combat polymer. This skill has a cooldown."

...which isn't even close to how the skill works. You basically just have to deploy the shield and let an enemy hit you with it up and they'll generally get some goo on them.

The latter skill for Mass TK states:

"Drains energy from enemies gripped by Mass Telekinesis to restore the recirculation chamber's power. Requires one Power Cell to activate."

...and I'll be honest, I have no idea how to activate this. I've tried using the key bound to "recharge" and nothing seems to happen, I've tried reactivating/deactivating the ability and other likely keys to no avail. Seriously, if someone knows how to activate this, please speak up.

If that's true then its terrible game design. Buy extra cells way way before you can fill them unless you use melee? That's dumb as hell.
