Games/comissions and peripherals are where sony makes money so they can sell their console at a loss. Ive been gaming for 30 years and console titles always have been more expensive.

edit: ive seen you created this bait thread two or even more times.

What i mentioned was no insult but just facts. No reason to start the OP intended war.

It was before RT & 4K-Gaming, apparently these important features costs 10 additional bucks! In my country we call it the Nextgen tax

To add more detail-

It's pretty much industry standard that storefronts take 30% (despite what Epic wants you to believe), platform holders take 10-15% in royalties, Publishers take the rest (devs are typically already long since paid by the time it hits the shelves, but it can vary by contract). The royalties are traditionally where console manufacturers make money on each game sale to cover hardware costs, but increasingly with the push towards digital-only content - platform holders own both the storefront AND take royalties (then charge you to pay to play online or offer extra streaming services on top of that).

Steam takes the typical roughly 30% storefront cost on PC, but do not charge any sort of royalties, because they can't. So there is that cost savings to pass on. At the end of the day, though, none of the major platform holders actually dictate prices to publishers. The game could launch at any price the publisher feels they need to make their investment back. Sony and Microsoft just set a target that publishers should try to aim for, an MSRP, but are not bound to. So the reason why the game is more expensive on consoles than it is on Steam, is because Sony and Microsoft are charging royalties for being on the Playstation/Xbox.

You could say that on consoles, you're paying a premium price for the privilege of playing an inferior version, on weaker hardware, with broken online functionality. On the other side of the consideration, Sony and MS also foot the bill for their own R&D on new hardware - in addition to the cost of the manufacturing. On the PC side, you still end up paying that extra cost to Intel/AMD/nVidia for more expensive hardware. Valve actually just eats those costs on hardware like the Steam Deck, but they also have a much broader market to pull sales from since they're not locked to a single hardware platform, in addition to selling keys to third parties, and don't have to market as aggressively - letting services do the marketing for them. There's a reason why everyone would much rather just use Steam, rather than deal with EGS or Windows Marketplace. Same reason why Steam will update their launcher two dozen times in the same amount of time it takes Sony or MS to put out a console update.
