It also supports VR and multiplayer.

For World War II aircraft, you could play Warplanes instead, which also supports motion controllers as flight controls.

About WWII, Warplanes is arcade crap, IL2 is amazing both for WWI and WWII, but agin it's clear that VR is an add on and the game is not created thinking solely in VR. VTOL VR WWII is something that obviously BAHA is not going to do, but the VR roots of VTOL VR could work pretty well almost in any kind of simulator (name it WWII, Mechas, Spaceships or submarines) because the VR implementation is amazingly clean and friendly... and release after release, game mechanics and simulation has become top notch!
Years ago, when the dev got an HTC Vive, he was impressed by how accurately the controllers were being tracked and wanted to see if he could use them as flight controls in a virtual cockpit. Since he was prototyping a vehicle in a very small environment, it had to be a VTOL to prevent it from moving too fast and going off the bounds of the world. It was working so well so he built the rest of the game around that.
The plan was originally to fly around (vertical thrust only) a small procedural city completing short strike and transport missions, but then he made the engines able to tilt, so the map had to be bigger, then he wanted to do hook and catapult, so ok now we need a big ocean, so now the city seems like a dumb flat island, so we need terrain, now the terrain island is getting boring so we need procedural maps, etc. With the support of the wonderful community that has grown around it, the game has totally exceeded what it had initially envisioned.
I'm as excited as you are to see how far this game has come, and wonder where it will go in the future.
you can send GPS wave points to your friends. I was playing a mission and I was flying the helicopter and I found some bunkers which I did not have the weapons for. So I marked them with GPS wave points than my buddies dropped bombs on them for me.
Thank you, this is an amazing story.
You are an amazing source of knowledge about the game.
I am very sorry that you are treated so badly on this forum. I think this is a huge injustice.
You do a great job of quoting the answers of the game developer, and telling the story of the game, and the reasons why something was done exactly the way it was.
Personally, I think that for the amount of work you put into it, you should be honorably placed in the credits in the thanks, or something similar.
For my part, I send you a heartfelt thank you for your contribution to the development of the game. You're doing a great job here, and you're taking a lot of hits, it must be a very unpleasant job.
The old OverCloud volumetric cloud plugin has been modified to support single pass stereo rendering for a significant performance boost.
Visibility affects the TGP and optical weapon guidance.
Laser-guided weapons can be guided by friendlies by entering laser codes.
It can be used to enter radio channels, altitude on the map, and laser codes.
It can be launched from helicopters, APCs, and infantry.
Buddy lasing infantry
TOW APCs
Cargo Trucks
Lastly I went back to DCS and I'm pushing hard on helicopter warfare there... improving the laser operation, adding radio frequencies, laser codes, better weather... this game is slowly getting closer to DCS options XD
And TOWs can be really fun if you have to "fly them" somehow instead of using the most forgiving fire and forget air to ground missiles. And trucks!!! FINALLY!!! just that, some logistics to go boom!!!
Thank you very much for the info.
About Laser guided weapons and friendly lasing... VTOLVR has a lot of superpowered weapons that are fire&forget without lasing with huge ranges... having this mechanic is fun, going for more cold-war era or realistic set ups, which are great in VtolVR, but with the most "advanced" hardware in use, lasing is just a vintage option :D
I second this, an anti-submarine plane would be pretty cool
