Quest 2 hand tracking
Is there a way to use the Quest 2 hand tracking instead of controls? that would be awesome, to be able to use your hands and a HOTAS.

Finger tracking cannot give you haptic vibration feedback.
And if you want to click a virtual button without pressing the trigger on the motion controller, any switches and buttons your virtual hand happens to collide with will instantly be actuated. Obviously that's far from ideal because it leads to numbers of accidental presses on your way to activating the control you wanted.

The above video is of using finger tracking and HOTAS in DCS. Do you think it is "awesome"?

I still don't understand why people keep using finger tracking like this and call it the "best solution".
You can see in these videos that the experience is obviously far worse than using motion controllers in VTOL VR.

yes but quest 2 uses hand gestures for clicking, that can be solved with button boundaries... detecting those specific gestures like pinching

If you could do this then you could build scale cockpits for tactile feedback.
It would be sooooo good.

They sometimes interfere with buttons without you want them to activate them because you are moving your hands around through the cockpit.

If I grab my real life HOTAS which isn't in the exact same position as the virtual one, any controls that near your real life HOTAS will be accidentally activated which is really really annoying.

Oh come on your not serious. DCS doesnt have physical interactivity, VTOL does! VTOL is optimised for physical interaction so it would be much better suited for hand tracking then DCS. And using a real life hotas means you dont have the issues of hand tracking jankyness messing up pressing hotas buttons. Comparing a game that has no physical interaction and a game that ONLY has physical interaction IS NOT A COMPARISON! Whilst I dont think this will ever be a feature I can agree that it would be AWESOME!

I think there´s the Quest 2 hand tracking sdk, maybe someone can develop a workshop mod?

If this game could use hand tracking, card board recreations of the various cockpit's would be all over etsy, cuz that would be awesome

That´s something i was thinking about, because it´s a simple cockpit very doable...
With the SDK i think some genius will develop something!..

Wow that is right I wanted to try DCS again with my new PC, but I forgot the UI was so clumsy...

We need to make this happen
Is this exactly the game you want? Sadly it is only a teaser 2 years ago.

Demo two months ago. There doesn't seem to be any progress.

A great part of VTOL VR UI is the haptic feedback, both vibration and physical buttons/trigger presses.

With only hands in the air it will be much trickier.

But as an option, for the guys who wants to build their physical cockpit, its awesome.
