locking targets
ok I cant get my missiles to fire... or i cant get things to lock properly...

I've tried several different missiles, Air to Air, turned on my tgp, selected soi, get the little square to attach to the enemy aircraft, weapons master on, checked the display and they are armed... won't fire.

I can fire the cannon just fine. I've also fired the cluster missile at ground targets, but cant get the missiles to fire at other planes...

Thanks for helping me!

The tgp isn't used for targeting air to air missiles.
For IR (fox 2) guided missiles (aim-9, airs-t) you need the seeker head to lock onto the target by itself by pointing your aircraft directly at the enemy. You should get an audible tone if good. You can then fire.
Better still go into the weapons management display and change seeker to head-tracking. You can then target by looking at the enemy.

The radar (fox 3) guided missile (amraam) you need to turn on your radar. Adjust the range on the radar to find the target. Move your cursor over the target and click to add to your target list. Click on it again (or the respective target number on the left of the radar screen) to actually get a fireing solution. You can now shoot when in range.

On the f-45 ignore the radar screen. Use the TSD. Turn radar power on and click on the target. If the line between you and the target appears you can shoot

This is a great tutorial for weapons but doesn't include air to air:

For the IRIS-T or AIM9 you can change to uncaged or vertical scan as well. You can change on the Equipment screen. Uncaged is a good mode to go with. Try changing the mode while the missile is selected and you'll be able to easily see the change in behavior.

On Windows Mixed Reality controllers, clicking on the pad doesn't do anything. I can't get any targets to lock at all.

I use WMR controllers. Clicking on the pad works for me, but only when my thumb is centred on it, which can be less than reliable. Might be worth checking bindings.

The joysticks on the rift controllers are clickable - press down. This is how you lock a target. Took me forever to realize I could press down on them! Right hand locks targets. Left hand press joystick down to rotating engine nozzles (move stick fore/aft while pressing it down).

I dont have a rift. On WMR Controllers, you have to use the touchpad and the click in the center is damn near non existent. I can only target something about 1 out of every 500 attempts.
