No Heatseeker Warning + Useless Countermeasures
Hey guys, sinking a couple more hours into this game on the latest hotfix (v0.0.7.3 - thanks for fixing the stall issue!) I have noticed a couple of other frustration-causing problems:

1. The new jet doesn't appear to have a functional heat seeking missile lock warning. I hear "Missile Launch" being announced (similar to allied jets firing missiles at enemies) and the next thing I hear is the missile hitting my fuselage.

2. Next up is the extremely (borderline useless) ECM and Flare countermeasure systems. I know this one has been brought up many times, but it is definitely an problem when my AIM-120, AIM-9, AND IRIS-T cannot hit an enemy jet FLYING IN A STRAIGHT LINE while popping ECM and Flares. Meanwhile, any missile shot at me requires extreme acrobatics + constant countermeasure drops to have a 50/50 chance of dodging them at best. Flares does work a little better against heatseekers than ECM does a radar lock missile, but it’s tough to know when to use when there’s no active heatseeker lock warning.

This is hands down my favorite game on the Vive, thanks again devs for making this an insanely awesome experience!

1 heatseekers never give any warning. As the name says though detect by heat there is no current way to detect that. it is all by visual. as for 2 I somewhat agree.

Former C-130 Loadmaster here. MANPADS being heatseeking, Shazzy is right. We had two methods of detecting, visually spotting, and a sensor that detects the launch (a panel in the cockpit points to the quadrant the launch was detected in). After that we try to visually locate missile and call proper manuever to pilot to defeat it.

BLUF: Although IR missiles are Passive there are real life ways that aircraft can detect them aside from visually loacting them.

Real aircraft can detect IR missiles using a Missile Warning System (MWS). A UV MWS will detect the eject and boost stage of a missile launch, IR MWS will detect eject, boost and coast stages. Radar MWS detects the fuse/terminal stage. The very least you will get is a warning and can have auto-release of flares when the MWS detects the missile. An ideal MWS will have multiple sensors for all round coverage.

If the aircraft is large enough it may have DIRCM (Direcftional IR Counter Measures), may also be known as Large Aircraft IR Counter Measures (LAIRCM). This will be cued by the MWS to confuse the incoming missile with a laser.

I thought it fired out both chaff and flare at the same time , so to eliminate the need for two seperate warning and fire mechanisims.

There are toggles which decide what will be ejected when you deploy counter measures. By default both chaff and flares are selected. If you know what threat you are up against you might want to select only the CM suitable for that threat to save expending a limited resource. For example use only chaff when up against a patriot to make sure you have flares for later on against an IR threat

Langersuk I was trying to explain it without going too in depth, not knowing what is considered unclassified or not. Thanks.
