So here's where my little village is at.

I always have:
-a ton of mushroom. Why does it take so many mushrooms to make a potion?
-a ton of claw root. Again, takes too many. I have two storehouses and they only hold 50 pieces. More than that, if I try to craft a potion, the crafter won't take it out of the warehouse. Seems unbalanced to me that I need to hold all these mushrooms and the warehouse only holds enough for a few potions. Why would I ever need an herbalist?

-Ingots I WAS crafting armor and selling it to the goblin, but once I sold him an iron piece, he won't take copper pieces of armor? Doesn't matter because I need leather.

-Handles Not sure what they do but I'm always having to dump them in a chest instead of in my storehouses.

I'm always out of:
-Meat and I have no idea why. My hunter and fisherman just stand in front of their houses like they have nothing better to do.

I'll have 88 meals, I walk away to grab one tree and I get a popup that I'm out of meals.... 2 minutes later I have 88 meals again. Popup again that I'm suddenly out of meals! I don't get it. The brewer has no problem at all keeping up. I have 16 people. Where are these 88 meals disappearing to?

-Leather It's used in everything. Need more sources. Can I tell the tailor not to use leather? I need leather for chests. I need leather for every weapon and shield...

Little things I wish weren't a thing:

-I have to start a game in order to go to the options screen so I can set my resolution and sound options. Considering I have a problem in every game with THIS IS TOO LOUD, it sucks to have to wait this long to adjust sound levels.

-I can't touch the options when in a cave.
I frequently forget controls and the options menu is the only way to reference keybindings.

Can I change the facade of structures? I can change the roofs, but I very rarely look at the roof on a building. The camera angle isn't really good for that. Every building uses the same stone texture so if I'm standing next to a building, walk away from my keyboard and come back, there's no way to easily identify where I am. Is that a wall? An NPC house? A warehouse? Nobody knows.
There's some variation so I can always ID my house for example, but why not have different stone colors so it's easier to see at a glance the difference between a wall and a warehouse.

Hi! Thank you for the feedback and data. Allow me to respond to each:

I can increase the amount of storage for alchemy ingredients.

-Ingots I WAS crafting armor and selling it to the goblin, but once I sold him an iron piece, he won't take copper pieces of armor? Doesn't matter because I need leather.
This is a bug. Shaydee should buy armor of any type. I will look into it.

-Handles Not sure what they do but I'm always having to dump them in a chest instead of in my storehouses.
If you are unable to put handles in the storehouse that's also a bug. Will look at that too.

-Meat and I have no idea why. My hunter and fisherman just stand in front of their houses like they have nothing better to do.
I think I know what is causing this. But basically the Hunter and Fisherman should never hang out at home unless there is something in the storehouse, such as monsters. I think the issue is after that quest they aren't being told to get back to work. I'll try to confirm that as well.

For the most part the Dwarves all eat at the same time. A typical Dwarf eats about 6 meals twice a day. So that's why they're using it up. I can look at the numbers to make sure it's not too imbalanced, but at 16 Dwarves you should have two Cooks. I'll take a look at the numbers though.

-Leather It's used in everything. Need more sources. Can I tell the tailor not to use leather? I need leather for chests. I need leather for every weapon and shield...
Leather is supposed to be fairly common as loot drops. Also, if your Hunter is stuck at home then you're likely not getting as much as you should get.

You should be able to change the resolution and the sound settings from inside the game. I just tested it and they both work. Or am I not understanding the issue?

-I can't touch the options when in a cave.

I can probably allow options to work when underground. Originally the ESC menu was limited when underground to prevent saving. But allowing options should be fine.

The only limitation here is actually memory related. That said, I'm actually looking into possibility having the building textures updated and that would also mean some more stone and maybe wood options.

Thank you again for posting this. Definitely some stuff for me to look into right away in addition to stuff to think about for the future!

If you are able, please send me your save and I can check to see if anything in the numbers isn't working as intended. You can find how to send a save here:

I can put handles in the storehouse but the storehouse only holds 50, so 25 each. Same problem as mushrooms where the warehouse just doesn't hold much. I loot them all the time and whatever they're used in just isn't keeping up.

That would do it. I've had that quest twice today. Oh yeah, I almost forgot! Even though the dwarves eat the meals in one go, they get the "I ate raw food today" debuff and it's :/
I have 100 meals now and everyone eats raw food. *kicks sand*

Trying to get a tavern up as my next building. Maybe that'll help.

Why can't I change the resolution and sound before I start the game? Like, on the main screen instead of missing out on the opening scene because I'm too distracted by wrong graphics and sound..

The only limitation here is actually memory related. That said, I'm actually looking into possibility having the building textures updated and that would also mean some more stone and maybe wood options.

Ah, yeah that's tricky. So many games that just crash or stop working at endgame because there's too many of whatever. Fun times.

Thank you!

Can do. Thank you too.

Edit: Oh yeah, had another question.

Do enemies level with you? Scaling type thing? Seems like no matter what I upgrade in personal points and armor, seems like I'm not better against enemies. They seem to do the same amount of damage and I also do the same. Just my imagination?

Hi,

I can increase the amount of handles too. Just don't want it to be too much as the numbers are balanced based on number of storehouses, size of town, number of workers, etc.

I'm not sure what you mean about the resolution and sound. You can change the settings at the title screen and when in game. Sorry, I'm confused. :)

Yes enemies level up based on a few factors. Right now it's mostly based on your gear, but I want to the town to affect it too, that way it won't feel like a 1:1 change.

If your people are eating meals and getting that debuff then something might be wrong.

I just got at your save so I'll take a look at it later this evening and see if I can figure out what's off.

Thank you!

Oh and I also want to say thank you for the review. That means a lot! :)

Oh, I found it... It's a gear icon in the top right when on the splash screen. I guess I was expecting it to be a red button on the main menu.

Ah ok, that's a fair point. I'll try to make that button more obvious.

OK, I figured out what's going on with the Hunter and Fisherman. It was that quest. I fixed the bug that caused them to not go back to work and put in checks when a save is loaded to set them back to work if the quest is no longer active.

I'll have these fixes along with some of the balance stuff mentioned above in the next update. That update is a big one (includes the new mines and a big change to the controller support for the town manager) so I don't want to release it until I've fully tested it.

But yes, unfortunately with those two not working, your food supply and leather supply is less than it should be. For now you can swap the Fisherman and the Hunter and then swap them back and the Fisherman will get back to work. The Hunter will need to wait for the update with the fix.

I'll try to get the update live by Friday as this is a pretty big bug and I'd like to get a lot of the other things you suggested into the game as well!

I just tested Shaydee on your save and he did buy a copper hammer that I made. Do you recall which copper item he refused to buy?
CoLS Firestar Jul 23, 2020 @ 7:18am
It was a pauldron. Looks like that only happened once though. There's just these times where he won't take things. (earlier it was a jade bracer) I'm not sure if it's what I'm doing or what.

I'll try the workaround for now. Thank you for the help.

Hunters and Fisherman are fixed in Beta 12.1. Thank you again for the report!
