Releases of old versions
What would really be cool is if you updated and released Civ 1 & 2 so we could play our old favorites again..... I am disappointed in civ 3, 4, and 5.... they are so empty and predictable. I see no reason or evidence that this game will be any better..... so I will not buy it, and actually regret my civ 5 purchase... maybe I can trade it for something more playable :P

If you own the PC or Linux version of Civilization V then there is no trading it, it is permanently associated with your Steam account.

Darn! was worth a shot..... I guess it will collect dust until I finally remove it, or it gets an update. But with the new game coming, an update is not likely to happen. Oh well... I got a few hours of enjoyment out of it, so it's not a total loss.

There's nothing stopping you from playing Civ or Civ2 right now. No need for any updated versions.

I searched, and fiddled with dosbox, etc. I can't get them to work :( I've tried emulators, virtual machines, nothing works :(

Civ you can use Dosbox, but you'll need more serious VM work and a license for windows for that VM for Civ2 - it won't run on 64bit OSes.

Civ 2, depending on the version you have, can be made to run on modern operating systems:

Including 64 bit operating systems without utilizing a virtual machine.

DOSBox? VM? Don't make me laugh.

Real men own a real computer - the 486/DX100 system I bought in 1992 still runs both of them just fine.

slightly off the old versions but freeciv is free to download, fully playable and might be worth a look

How cool is it that there are devs and mods posting here trying to help out a guy who is bad mouthing this new game? Makes me happier I pre-ordered!

civ II you just get status of liberty, switch to fundamentalism and spam fanatics and it's over.

I don't regret buying the Civ 5 complete edition - it's really well done - especially how it lets a few turns go by and some new dimension (like religion or spies) pops up. When Civ 5 first came out I tried playing the demo and was repulsed by it. So either I got softer or the game got much better. Looking forward to the "real" version of Beyond Earth - whenever that comes out in 5 years or so. :)

I don't personally consider TOT to be Civ2 proper. MGE being 32-bit was news to me, thanks :)

I found a solution to my problem...... I found my windows 98se disk and product code.... I am now in the process of building a computer to run it, and will load all my old facorites onto it.

Thank you to everyone that tried to help....

and to the trolls (you know who you are solaris32) I hope the fleas of a thousand camels infest your nether region.

As for the new game.... I will reserve judgement. Time will tell....
