J. Edgar Hoover's death [SPOILERS]
Here's a thing that bothered me about this game.

So in the beginning there's J. Edgar Hoover and at the end of the first level who happens to die. So the game is set in 1961 but in real life J. Edgar Hoover died in the beginning of the 1970's. How was that explained in game?

I don't think you noticed but in 1961 aliens didn't invade.
Well, who knows, everything was classified

A bit of a necropost but I think I figured this out. Hoover dying wasn't actually shown in-game. Carter mentions Hoover getting killed when talking to Weaver when it looked like nobody from the war room survived (except Deems of course). It was a scary chaotic situation and they probably didn't have all of their facts straight at the time.

Later, when Faulke is giving his briefing at XCOM HQ he lists the number of survivors from Groom Range as 6. Which if you add up who that is you get Carter's squad (Carter, Nils, Kinney), Weaver, Faulke. That's 5. So there's 1 more to make 6. Its either referring to Hoover or Barnes, the Skyranger pilot. Given that we didn't see Barnes actually at the base, but he only came in flying the Skyranger, I'd say the 6th person is Hoover.
