Why people dislike this game???
Seriously, this game is awesome. It's like mass effect but more polished and with detailed design of locations. And the plot twist is amazing, I was surprised. What's wrong, guys?

I personally cannot remember much about this game. I remember being very excited for it Pre-Release and upon Release. But my interest in it waned quickly. It is difficult to remember if there was anything specifically bad about the gameplay. I think it did not run too well. To be fair, my PC at the time was pretty bad.

I remember parts, here and there. I absolutely loved the setting/era. It was super cool.
I remember the gunplay was about what I had expected: Fun, Simple, TPS with Cover Mechanics.
I think I remember the story not working for me overall. I was expecting a different game. I thought it was going to be like an X-Files type investigation thing. Something that was like you go to areas and investigate anomolies, and some kind of attempt to cover it all up and hide stuff from even top people in the government. I expected something almost with a horror element to it. This wasn't just my imagination getting away from me. They kind of marketed the game to be that.

It ended up being just XCOM in a different time period and put in a TPS instead of a Top-Down Turn Based Strategy. I don't think that is bad, per say. It just wasn't what I was expecting. Plus, I believe XCOM Enemy Unknown had just released or was about to. There was a big XCOM reboot craze going on. And considering the quality of that game, this one just did not deliver. I think people were confused that the stories did not really play off one another. Although, I did think it was clever the dude you play in this game is the voice of the Director/CEO dude in Enemy Unknown. The guy who always calls you on a dark phone call, "Commander..."

Same for me. I thought and was hoping it would be like that too, which made perfect sense since by lore the actual invasion of earth didn't happen until 2015 in XCOM EU.

This game is just a generic shooter, with bad AI, and clunky game mechanics. Shooting your gun didn't actually feel very real or powerful, even with a rifle. It seemed more like just ordering your guy to a spot and then he begins auto firing a pellet gun.

I put the whole game on as a let's play on my YouTube channel back in 2013, as the first real game I played through. I ended up disliking it by the end of the story.

If the fighting mechanics were improved, with better AI, the game would have been much better. Adding in investigation, and horror, and a lot less fighting would have made it a way better game. I don't mind the story or the 60's them, it wasn't bad, and at times drew me in, but that didn't compensate for the bad game mechanics.

I think the game is just really a small squad based, real time shooter, with some story elements thrown in. There was as much of a feeling of investigation in XCOM and XCOM 2.
If this is generic shooter then I don't know what all those fps that got churned out almost every month are.

Even more generic than those! Truth be told those aren't as common anymore. That's quite the hyperbole that they come out every month. More at most a couple a year for Call of Duty and others.

Sounds like you need to get your eyes checked or at least learn to look at contemporary games of that time.

Best XCOM ever made.

One can have their opinion on this. Just look at Mr. No_Effs_Given - He thinks it's the best XCOM game ever made.

I just finished playing The Bureau: XCOM Declassified from start to finish again when I wrote that comment you responded to. I have the entire game up as a Let's Play on my channel, and I did a video review of it back in 2014. I stand by what I wrote here in this thread. Maybe some of it is in hindsight now going back 11 years, but it's a bad shooter type game.

Because that's pretty much all it had was it's game mechanics. The story was okay, but could have been much better than it was. The characters were it's weakest part. All you really have was a shooting game, where you give orders to two companions. Yes, there is a leveling system in which you can choose what skills from a divided into two tree with 5 levels, but that's about it.

It's not a terrible game, but it's definitely not a great game, not even a good one, and the reviews from everyone show this. This game got this sub company within 2K Games shut down, because of how poorly it did.

I'd give it maybe a 5 out of 10 myself. But if you are like Mr. No_Effs_Given, and think it's a good game, that's fine, I can't change how you see it, nor would I want to. To each their own.

It does feels like a knock off 'Freedom fighter'.
Damn, I'm old.

That game is old, but gold. Loved it, one of the best IO Interactive games for sure. I prefer it over any Hitman game.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
