Just finished "It's my own invention". Is it worth to continue? [Spoilers up to chapter 3]

Heres my thoughts about this VN so far. "Down the rabbit hole 1 and 2" were not too bad. They introduced both the characters and a mystery so I was motivated to continue. But holy cow, the "It's my own invention" chapter was a torture to get through in every way and I don't like the direction in which the story appearently is going. But let me explain:
At the end of "Down the rabbit hole (2)" we see Yuki laying out all the evidence she has collected against Mamiya. There were still open questions like "what exactly happened to Kagami" etc. But I thought this will be uncovered through more detective work in the next chapter. But no. The chapter about Mamiya was a cryptic mess about a religious cult. He becomes the saviour, suddely has healing powers and talks to angels and ghosts. In other words, the story turned supernatural.

And thats the problem I'm having. I was hoping to get a mystery would be resolved in a believeable way. Now I'm afraid the answer to all the questions is just "because magic".

So heres my question considering I am hoping for a coherant ending: Is it worth to keep reading? Because it seems like I'm not even half way through and I don't want to waste more of my time if theres no satisfying end to it.

Also, will the s*x scenes be as frequent in the upcoming chapters? Because they seem to add pretty much nothing to the story besides having a shocking effect but that starts to wear off quickly because theres way too much of them.

I'd say give one more chapter a chance. The mamiya chapter is probably the longest slog tbh.

Thing about this game is that you think you know what is going on (for the most part) but then next chapter will turn everything you thought you knew upside down. About half-way through you still don`t have proper idea of things and even minutes before the end of this game it will still throw you a curve ball.

Just finished the story a week ago. Glad I did. Im now re-reading the first chapter.

Same question since you finished it, does it get better? I just stopped reading because I got tired of skipping these scenes. Most of them are straight up disgusting and bring absolutely nothing to the story.
I kinda liked the second chapter but "It's my own invention" ruins all motivation to read any further.
I know the ending gotta be really good since everyone say so but is it worth to continue if I'm already tired by the amount of disgusting stuff?

It's been a while since I finished, but from memory it does not get worse from there like sasha said. Actually theres a good story and the end is also satisfying. The problem is "its my own adventure" felt like 1/3 of the game (dont know if it actually is, but its definitly the largest chapter) and like you said pretty much all of it is disgusting stuff. I honestly feel like there would have more elegant ways to get the point of this chapter across.

Thinking back to it now I can say there is a good story in this game. But this chapter really tainted the experience for me. Its also why I wouldnt recommend this VN to anyone. So heres my advice. If you already pushed through this chapter, it definitly gets better again. If youre still in the middle of it, just stop. Like I said, in my opinion the story is good, but not phenomenal as most people here in the discussions tab would probably say.

Also heres my recommendation. If you are into darkish mystery, definitly give "The House in Fata Morgana" a shot. Thats a masterpiece in my opinion!

Like I said, its been a while and I can't really tell what "looking glass insects" was all about. I just remember "its my own invention" to take forever. Maybe i combined both chapters thinking back. Thats probably why it appeared so long.

So yeah, in this case I would say, stop reading! There are better ways to spend your time (even though I said I'm glad I finished it)

Feels like im in the end of "It's my own invention" rn Mamiya gathered all the people at his base and it felt like culmination of all the chapter's degeneracy (oh I hope there will be no more of this after the roof scene with Riruru) so I guess I'll give it another chance and try to finish it.

I'm kind of a fan of mysteries indeed and also heard of this vn, planning to read it some day but I still have 1.5 of Umineko chapters to finish
Definately can recommend Umineko and other ryukishi07 stuff if you haven't read it yet - peak fiction

This discussion was helpful to me because I’m finding this VN hard to get through, even as someone who enjoys gross, shocking VNs like Song of Saya and Euphoria. The issue with this one, especially this particular chapter, is that it’s so LONG that it feels like an incredible slog. SoS and Euphoria are shorter and get to their point quicker for sure, so even the comparatively much more disturbing sexual content doesn’t drag on for as long.

I’m almost done with this chapter though, so I will finish it and hopefully enjoy how the story continues to culminate.

its my own invention is very long but honestly i read both the true chapter and the kimika route and i loved it so much. Kimika route is possibly my favorite in the whole game, looking glass insects is also very shocking and upsetting but its not as long and then the chapters onward are very different but not as long either especially which dreamed it
