“Blue Reflection is mainly made for guys.” Okay then I won't play it.

I was really looking forward to this game for a long time. The decision to focus on the male audience and the framing and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ talk about fetish stuff just. As a girl it doesn't make me feel like a welcome part of the audience it feels gross and exclusionary. It killed all my interest.

It's even damaged my interest in Atelier games.

For all their problems, even the Senran Kagura / Valkyrie Drive devs are supportive and welcoming of female fans and acknowledge what a strong following they have among women.

It's not only for guys. If you're a girl who like yuri, you're very welcome.

It's not about whether or not I could enjoy it in spite of this. It's about the creators sending the message that women aren't welcome. I don't want to support that with my money. I also would have a hard time enjoying something with this constant voice in the back of my head basically reminding me that none of this is meant to be enjoyed by me.

It's 2017 who even cares about genders anymore, both men and women can buy & play the game just fine. Play what you like and be done with it.

But Senran Kagura and Valkyrie Drive (and any other game with plenty of fan service) are also clearly made with a male audience in mind, lol. That does not mean that females can't enjoy them, but the same goes for Blue Reflection and Atelier.

I'm not sure why the character designer being open about that makes you so offended. That's like getting mad at Calvin Klein for making different clothes for different genders.

It should be okay for a creator of any type to make something geared toward a specific audience of any color or shape. Especially men or women since they are the broadest of "types" to pander to. Though, I understand it must be a drag for something that piques your interest to end up being something you find repulsive. That's a bummer.

I'm a straight male and find it hard to get into some things geared towards women. But if I really like the art direction or something specific, I'll try and look past whatever bugs me out to enjoy the product. Like Osomatsu. Sometimes they're all like half naked and its gross, but damn I love the animation style.

How dramatic do you have to be to derive "not welcome" from "focused on guys"?

This is some tumblr-tier logic.

As another woman I am not too upset by it. I read it as 'Japanese guys are most likely to enjoy it' but I am sure he would be thrilled that females (and foreigners as a whole) like it too.

I'm a girl too and there are definitely parts of this game that really show male gaze, sometimes to a level that's pretty icky; it's somewhat obvious the creators are using their idealization of what girls are vs. actually having women participate in the creation of the game. Sigh. Gust is actually very well known for pandering to the male audience, one needs only look at Ar Tonelico lol.

Of course, I got a copy of this game fully knowing what I was stepping into... Kishida Mel's character design and art is _the_ reason I got it. Not all games are going to be targeted to you, and if it's a deal killer, that's perfectly fine too. For games like this one, my usual approach is to laugh *at* the game ("is that what the Japanese really think about how schoolgirls actually act?") rather than get upset that the game isn't targeted towards me. But I'm weird like that.

As a woman who's married to another woman, this game sadly doesn't have enough yuri, even if it's going to be the male-gaze kind of yuri. :sad kitty:

If you don't like the fan service in BR, that's all right but to say Atelier is the same?
How on earth Atelier is the same thing? This only tells me that some women are extremely fragile to the point of not tolerating even Atelier, that's crazy. I wonder if they can tolerate Peach, Daisy, Rosalina, Samus etc lol...

After playing Atelier Sophie and Firis i see how much "fanservice" for women it has, they cover both very well, maybe even more for females.

1. There is no yuri.
2. The men are always funny, handsome and some of them almost naked (hi, Angriff).
3. There is virtually NO ecchi, and the fanservice is just for ONE female character like Leon or Drossel (and that's pretty tame/mild), if you can't see one char with big boobs this means you are insecure about your own body.

And yet some people think Atelier is made for MALES.

I didn't. What I meant was that females can enjoy Blue Reflection and Atelier series (or any game really) regardless of it's target audience.

Yes, I was not referring to you, sorry if it seemed that way, but the article talks bad about Kishida and Atelier as well, not only BR, it was probably written by a angry feminist or something like that.
Monterossa Nov 10, 2017 @ 5:54am
Atelier actually had some yuri. That Totori x Mimi ending, and that mushroom scene in Meruru.

But that's as much as you can have with BR. How far do you want them to go? If you want them to actually going out or having sex, that's not gonna happened, and didn't happened in Atelier as well.

The article is so wrong in so many levels, those who played the game and saw the arc with all the girls realise that this game doesn't make any effort to be oriented to male audience at all. In fact, Hinako many times says it's wrong for some fan service or echii related stuff in the game, and the girls are portrayed respectful for both genres. The game could clearly use the fanservice and go full yuri to cater to a niche audience but they didn't, they broadened the scope with self own "restrictions" to appear more traditional for all fanbase.

It's just - nowadays, any anime female characters in games are seem as something really bad. A lot of people made flame wars in most BR news pointing out this game is "Pedophilia" or aimed at pedophiles. SJW are completely insane and extremely bad for gaming industry with focus on anime art.

Subtext, nothing real happened. Comparing sex with innocent teasing is hilarious.
Not even an innocent kiss happens in Gust games, people are so naive...
