Please explain green/red thumbs on gear and other unknowns
So I have been playing some time now and thought I understood the red/green thumbs on gear. But as more gear falls for level 70ish I am getting confused again about the better gear supposedely.

For instance a cap with an up count of 14, with 12 stat boosts across the board, another cap drops with 6 ups and only 4 or 5 stat boosts but the thumb up is green.

I was under the impression more ups is usually better along with the heros special abilities if present. But some gear has nether and has lower stats, and less ups but yet its better?

Also what is the better type of gear such as is leather better than chain for some toons or pristine over plate?

Is there a general rule of progression regarding unlucky, lucky, powerful, etc..?

This info is not explained anywhere I have looked (btw some of the guides were very good but didnt answer the above questions).

Thanks

The game is broken when it comes to armor AND weapon comparison. You should only look for the stats that you want to improve.
For dps all hero stats but with health and attack being the most important ones. The higher the ups the better. One word of caution :If looking for dps on weapons, the only thing that matters is the max amount of damage.
For tower heroes you also better disregard the green and red thumbs. Look for higher stats and more upgrades.
YYou will never go wrong again.

Leather, chain, mail, pristine. It all has the same quality.
Myth, trans, supreme, ultimate, ultimate + and ultimate ++ can all be dropped in these armor types

Armor prefixes are listed here in the wikia: http://dungeondefenders.wikia.com/wiki/Armor

And, as Veetoo said... never trust the red/green thumbs... just look for stats -- that is the more improtant part! :-)

Oh, and you are very welcome to join our group -- we have lots of experienced players who can help you with advice, etc. We hang out in Group Chat. :-)

Thanks Katherine, I remember you from Craft the world. Helpful there as well. Will think about the group.

From what you 2 said from above is kinda what I do now. I just notice tho that some items give better ups such as the damage getting bigger and bigger boosts from upgrades while other sjust give tiny increments for damage. Just wasnt sure if the thumbs was referencing this or just the overall count on the item.\

Question - Sometimes I look at each stat to see how much it is boosted, is it better to take a boost that increments it 2x and sometimes even 3x over a stat boost of just 1?

Leather, chain, pristine doesnt matter. Although pristine can be harder to farm for since Lab Assault doesn't drop pristine. :( Just make sure to have armor of all the same type on each individual toon in order to get the set bonus. So you can have leather on your trapper, chain on your summoner and so forth.

Also, thanks for pointing out that guides dont have that. I have a beginners guide but I know I dont cover everything and I am trying to constantly update it to help newer players. Will add that info.

Thanks.

I was also looking over the guides and only noticed a cap level mentioned for movement speed capping at 100. Is there other similar caps for other stat boosts?

I am kinda making some tower builders with just tower stats - mostly in T-health and T-damage but a few points in T-distance and T-rate also kinda a 4 or 5 to 1 ratio. Noticed that the distance and rate were having decreasing returns for more points invested.

Mikey -- not sure what you mean above when you say "points are boosted" -- are you talking about the armor set bonus?

Also, on ANY builder -- only tower stats are needed. (Don't put any into hero points or resists). On any builder armor, ONLY upgrade tower damage. The spawned points will have to do for the "sides" (trange, trate, thp).

There are other caps, and are very specific per builder, but you don't really need to worry about them until you get into endgame/NM. For example, range on squire caps at about 700.

Basically, look for armor which is high in all 4 stats, if possible, and only upgrade tdamage.

For example lets say I have an armor that has resists on it. When I level it up, fire resist goes up by 1 but lighnint may go up by 3, choose the 3 over the 1? I am assuming this would be dps armor not builder armor, since in NM you would need some resists to not die alot.

Not sure what you mean by The spawned points will have to do for the sides? You mean the points spawned by the equipment worn? Just use those without adding anymore?

I am just getting into my head the RULES of upping items now before so I understand the whys of it.

If you look at my guide, I have linked pictures from danielsnd's guide. Excellent illustrated guide he made and added some of the soft caps for different chars.

Resists, and any other points go up by multiple points when you have a set bonus, i.e. are wearing armor of all the same type -- Mail or Plate or Chain, etc.

Set bonuses are determined by the tier of armor, please see Wat's guide on this. Basically, for DPS armor, you will need a total of 164% to have full 90% resists on NM. Also check out the Armor Resistence Calculator[ddfrbr.com] on the web site for the step-by-step process on how to upgrade individual pieces.

We have a huge variety of guides all handily available -- DDFRBR Guide Page[ddfrbr.com]

Spawned points = the points the armor already comes with. You should not add any points to those unless you reach the cap on the tier of armor. (i.e. max of 360 points on Myth, 420 Trans, 500 Supreme, etc. (w/o set bonus).

Thanks for the links. I was looking at the DD2 website - that is one messed up site. Half the links dont work - seen the upgrade was not a success lol. Bad team of web design folks.

One last question if I may

Can DDE play with someone who has DD1? do they work together or not? From what I read looks to be same game with all dlc rolled into one game.

You get more points in a resistance the higher it is. Under 15% or so, you get 1% per upgrade, from 15%ish to 20%ish, you get two per upgrade, and 20%ish to 24% you get three per upgrade. After 24, It only goes up 1 per upgrade, and you can only upgrade it every 10 levels.

They are completely seperate games. It's like trying to have someone playing Portal play together with someone playing Portal 2. They are essentially the same game, but there are differences. And, if you want my opinion, don't play DDE.
