Fun for new players?

Hee, i want to play a grindy tower defence. Is this game still fun and can you do it solo?

Yes and Yes but I dont really do solo much personally.

Wouldn't recommend getting just the base game though, the Ultimate collection goes on sale for $10USD (80% off) every once in a while so you're better off waiting for that.

Yes but i dont encourage to Buy the licence Dungeons defenders

The Dev have habits to create a New game and give up 1 year later. Dd1 and DD2 is only game to receive update but a remake is abandonned since 5 years...

I recommend to Buy orc must Die. The Dev is good and not give by the dev's

Solo yes, grindy without a guide and honestly the grind is determined by how perfect you want your gear to be. Fun is subjective, either find fun in the min/max aspect or the cartoony graphics and smooth play.

abso-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥-lutely, although i will warn you that going into it blind you will eventually hit a wall and have no idea what to do, but until that point, i recommend playing at your own pace and yeah eventually guides will essentially be required, but yeah you can get an infinite amount of playtime from this game i think you will love it

the game is outdated. the mechanics are outdated. the trolls jesters flip and swap your buildings, so you will lose games. this cannot be turned off, and the offender cannot be found. the developers seem to be trolls themselves, they constantly add new abilities to the jester, for trolling. de-upgrades of buildings, damage to the crystal, gold opponents, strengthening of mobs. the temple of water lags a lot.
And most importantly, the developers balance the challenges using the stacking mechanics. that is, in a fair fight you will not pass the mode ruff. because they put 16 towers in one point, and you can't do that without scripts with trojans.

Yes, solo can play but 2 is honestly best as solo you may struggle with some content. If you don't mind working a bit harder and putting some content off a bit or until you get good enough at the game then you can do all content solo.

Game is quite grindy for sure.

You want all characters, honestly. I mean it. Gunwitch is arguably an exception but she isn't bad, just not as important.

You definitely need the Eternia Shard DLC. You need some of the maps you wouldn't think for inventory capacity increase like the president DLC for achievements to unlock the increase and rewards... Honestly, I would just buy all the DLC so you don't have to puzzle out which ones to get and much of it is useful.

You can't play one hero. You are going to need to level multiple characters like auras, gas traps, reflect beams, buff beams, tower hp based tanky healing minions for walls, plus spider web minion debuff for 200% dmg bonus, Hermit has its uses, Apprentice/Adept is very good in general for multiple reasons, Squire has extreme edge case uses but can mostly be ignored for most players, Monk is best general all around DPS for most poeple though some can beat it very late game, etc.

Female heroes run faster than males but males have more health for combat. Something to keep in mind for builders and DPS characters.
