Have got the similar problem trying to get a Monk Animus, which can only get round by beating the Summit on Nightmare.
What might work is completing the Magus Quarter again, that might, just might drop a Tiger into the shop, but that's just a mad idea from reading the Wiki.
@knutticus
I don't recall the need for unlocking the pet to buy it from shop (unlock = make it spawn in tavern shop)
Still getting the pet directly from survival is a valid opinion.
@beanycheese
locking an item in shop will disallow it to despawn after you enter another level (buy you time to gather enough mama to buy) and has nothing to do with buying it.
I will still insist on the mana remark since you have only played sub 10 hours having full inventory is unthinkable
It has been a long time for me since I started the game but I don't recall items in shop as cheap as 500 mana I might be wrong here
Personal view is Survival is the best option, is a decent level to play and at the end of it you'll have a Tiger. If you max it out then you can call it Quartz, and the only difference between that and the one you can't buy might be the colour.
Don't get me wrong, I think its frustrating that a locked pet can't be bought, not the least because I've a similar problem with a Monk Animus.
