Dungeon Defenders Won't Launch
Hey guys I have been playing Dungeon Defenders on my currect setup for almost a year now.. and I haven't had any problems previously.. I have been playing quite a lot lately and out of nowhere I run into this problem.. It happened yesterday and I searched through the forums for hours and I validated my game cache, then restarted and it worked... wake up this morning and try to play again and it's started all over. Of course I retried my fix a second time, no go.

Now I'll try to save some time by telling you what I think. I don't believe the problem is steam, because it launches magicite, skyrim, and terraria (my only other games at the moment) perfectly. ONLY DUNGEON DEFENDERS HAS THIS PROBLEM. I'll click on play and it'll say "Preparing to launch Dungeon Defenders" then the message will disappear and nothing happens, I open my task manager to observe and nothing even comes up, like steam cannot communicate with the start-up application for Dungeon Defenders... I would really love to play this game today, so if anyone could help, it would be highly appreciated.

***By the way, I HAVE re-installed already.. and the problem persists.***

that is a Forum I have already visited.. I've never had any problems with any game on this system before... this is the only instance, and it just popped oout of nowhere.

More infos please!

Have you anything updated recently?
What's the installation path of Steam and DD?
Do you have admin rights?
Have you run any program which 'cleans' your hdd/ssd/registry?
Have you tried to remove the file called "clientregistry.blob" located at the Steam installation folder?
.....

I haven't updated anything lately, And Steam and DD are both default installation paths, I am admin, I ran an adware scan and remove harmless, but useless files with it, and I have done the Dlient registry.blob, it worked a single time last night, turned my computer off for the night, then started it this morning to play, and its the same problem again, I tried doing it again this morning, but no result.

the original problem was that My xbox 360 controller (for splitscreen) was not communicating with DD for some reason, but it was communicating perfectly with the computer itself.. I looked at pretty much every forum present, and nothing would work. So I re-installed.. and that is when the problem started.. I am thinking it is just an install problem.. so I'm currently re-installing.. although I'd still appreciate your feedback.

Okay.. I restarted my computer now, and it's working, I ran into this yesterday, so I won't get my hopes up, I'll re-post if the problem returns

Weird.

However, I know Win8 has issues with some programs installed on the system drive (default installation path) for some reasons.

How do you quit the game/Steam? Sounds like a corrupted file now and then.

Shut down steam using the Steam--> Exit on the dropbox, or shutting down by simply using the top-right X. I will admit, however, that with Dungeon Defenders I have been in an online game multiple times, and I had to move on to something else quickly, like a call for work or something, and instead of wasting time on exiting the online server, moving to the main menu, waiting for all the menu transitions and then exiting the game, I have just done the Ctrl+Shift+Esc trick and ended the process.. Although with multiple re-installs I would like to think that wouldn't be the source, also considering it works some days and not others.. although the corrupted file does seem plausible.

Well, there are always some files left, even though you uninstall the game. Also the integrity check of game cache doesn't check files which are self-created by the game. Another issue could be Steam Cloud (or the actual cause of corrupted files)

Read carefully
You could try to disable the Steam Cloud feature for Dungeon Defenders IF you are not playing on Open mode.
