For Jester, people typically use a Lupine Bow. (Search for it in the guides section, there's a great one that goes into super detail), it can fill your mana bar in a second or two then you can quickly spend it all and repeat for super-fast upgrading.
For Monk you can use it with a high AoE weapon to maintain a tower boost for entire waves, increasing tower damage by 2-3x if your tower boost stat is high enough.
So since no one else actually explained how genies work, but instead gave one of the best weapons to utilize it with, I'll put that here.
What the genie does, is as you do damage to enemies, it will do a flipping animation. When the animation ends, it will generate mana for your character. The mana generated is based on the damage you do during the period of time the genie is activated.
The reason Lupine bows are one of the best weapons to use with a genie pet, is their infinite piercing. So you can basically sit by your towers, and fire down the lane to generate mana for upgrading that batch of towers at an absurd rate.
