im not sure if its still viable
My best character is my monk with 1,3k tower, my squire has 1,2k. huntress is at 900~ish ... EV at 1.2k. Not sure about my Summoner, gotta have to check.
A tactic you will find is maps that have a lot of crystals often use builds that pull aggro by having zero or nearly zero defenses at all but one crystal. Other crystals might have an aura/gas trap stack at it and that is all (maybe even buff beam) but no physical units to target and pull aggro and even then you might not upgrade them to reduce aggro they draw. Due to the AI in the game if you build everything at once crystal mobs will typically go to that one, especially Ogres unless they pass very close, physically, to a crystal. You can boost the odds of this happening further by having your characters not go near other areas of the map to further increase aggro (crystals, upgrades, DU/MU placements, and heroes all boost aggro to an area on the map so people use this strategy to create an overwhelming aggro to one crystal with inflated DU/MU use on one spot making it even easier to defend). This isn't considered cheating and is the core way the game has been played for years. You have to come up with a solid build that does this right and enemy stats are heavily designed with this in mind as devs were to lazy to fix this method so they balanced around it being used (thus spread out builds are actually considered exceedingly underpowered even from Dev standpoint). Use Lightning towers to further pull aggro much more efficiently (mass LT spam, several of them, maybe DST also if stats high enough) to deal damage which pulls even more aggro to much of the maps mobs).
Gas traps deal with Djinn very well as well as Sharken. Sharken do not charge summoned minions unless there is a DU based physical tower in range to prompt the charge ability (keep them far enough from your minions and sharks never charge if using minion walls).
Gas traps + aura/trap stacks basically eliminate 99-100% of all trash mobs from ever reaching minion walls. Throw in lightning tower on buff beam spam (and some DST if stats support faster firing rate) and this works even better (and you can eventually just use LT and no offensive aura/traps to deal with trash mobs). This often keeps spiders as completely moot point (like there is no point even having them in the game because they passively die from aura/traps/LT before ever doing anything or landing). This is doubly advantageous because it means only Ogres tend to reach minion walls making it easier for minions to tank but also means spider minions (1-3 at each walled defense spot) only web ogres.
Spiders are important for dealing with ogres because anything they web takes 2x damage and loses abilities while webbed (can't ogre spit ball, other mob abilities if hit). If buff beam roughly boost defense DPS ~3x (minions 2x cause no attack rate scaling) and spiders 2x then that is around 6x dps boost on towers (a big deal). So USE THIS to deal with ogres effectively. Further stacks with monk tower boost if doing a campaign map (but for survival use only summoners ideally because only summoner heroes on field during wave = pure armor drops, only weapons you want are from campaign/challenge map completion rewards).
Minions only use tower hp + tower damage (I prioritize tower HP, personally, since they don't do much dmg compared to actual DPS towers and are your main way of tanking and if they don't fall then you win even if just a little slower because less dps). Minion mage heal is based on % hp so more HP also equals more heal power. Tower rate and range are worthless and don't scale. Literally worthless, as in 0 points is 100% okay. 0 points vs 5,000 rate and range + buff beam is like... 0.03 boost? Not worth it for tower rate and tower range on summoned minions.
Akakiti gives very good sword/monk tower stat weapons. The pirate bay map (forget name) for good tower harpoon. Akakiti isn't easy for ur stats tho (like zero chance, find someone doing it which happens often because of the boss and final wave are crazy). Moonbase has solid tower stat weapons in the meantime. All these weapon/pet rewards are from campaign runs not survival (survival is NOT good for weapons). Moonbase also gives Fishbowl from campaign (300-500ish stats, no dps pure tower stat pet) and Treadmill on Treadmill (500-800 stats and big Movement speed boost, arguably best pet in game for how easy to farm, tech highest stat pet is only 25 points higher at 825 and diamond gives similar stats with a bit higher MS boost but is way harder to farm). Look online for info about dance minigame for moonbase to get these rewards (map is easy once you know how to build it even at your stats but may require some practice and more players might make it easier for you at first).
Due to the above Moonbase should probably be your current priority on campaign. There is also the one crystal defend trick though handling moonbase will require a bit of fails probably until you figure out how to properly handle it. Don't bother with moonbase survival (coastal bazaar is better and easier for top tier loot, moonbase survival is arguably among the hardest maps despite only offering near best loot).
Regarding this "Aggro Strats" about focussing on one Crystal, do you maybe have a Map or a Video or a couple Screenshots you can show me on a Map that I should farm that I could try? I would really like to know that setup, to start and try.
Sky City, notably survival but even campaign because this was actually the first ever map this strategy was seriously employed for.
Build ONLY aura stack and two gas traps (can do inferno traps too if you want) at each side of the crystal where mobs would try to pass from). Throw buff beam to cover both trap set + aura stack and UPGRADE buff beam but NOTHING else at those crystals.
Now at the middle crystal (iirc, its the one you spawn at) build your minion wall at steps so mobs can't get up, your aura stacks, your trap stacks, and a TOOOON of LT/DST on a buff beam far enough out of ogre range when they do their AoE swing. Add reflects as necessary to DPS tower stack, and if you want to minions to reduce onslaught from copter missiles and spider web (as spider web can result in taking 2x dmg to minions, harsh if your stats can't cope at later waves).
Add some spider minions to throw web at ogres at this junction and it will definitely help since all ogres come to this crystal.
During build phase make sure all aura/traps are healed at the other crystals and during battle do NOT go to those crystals and they should be fine. In RARE cases, and I do mean very rare on most maps, something may somehow end up pathing past it and aggro onto it so you might actually have to rush to clear it but this almost never happens in most maps this strat is used, especially if nothing but buff beam is upgraded (as upgrading defenses at a location boosts aggro to that spot). Coastal Bazaar and some others do have this occur hence gas trap + reflectors (especially because range are more likely to lock on if they walk directly past it) just to be safe but otherwise this method has an extremely high success chance of zero issues at all while totally AFK if you do it right.
Some maps due to how spawns occur with regards to paths available and crystals make this plan impossible. Glitterhelm is an example, but there aren't many maps this is a serious issue on and the few it is are older much easier maps.
In addition, as your stats get higher eventually you can just put aura/traps at crystals and then use a single buff beam for a massive number of LT + DST as they will eventually have the ability to hit (on most maps) the entire map while on buff beam which is also a nice DU saver.
I forgot to use Summoner Minions - Which was CRITICAL to finish ANYTHING at all.
Since then I managed to finish Mistymire Survival and now using it to farm XP and Items. You guys are absolutely right - Most of my chars couldn't use transcended Items, not even talking about surpreme and ultimate.
I will now pile up stats on my main chars in mistymire and then "join" into the real game. Thanks everyone again, you guys ROCK.
