Chest tips ?
Hi all, I'm a new player and was wondering what to do when I don't really need to open a chest ? If I leave them closed at the first wave, do they contain more mana/stuff at the next one ? And, at the end of a game, if I leave all closed chests, are they converted to mana as is the left stuff ? Or, is a closed chest totally lost ?
Thanks !

Chests have the same amount of mana each wave and they don't have guranteed loot once you open them. If you were to leave the chests at the end of a level, I don't think they are converted directly to mana. Its safest just to open all chests, each wave, This allows both mana to drop from them, as well as, possible loot.

I would always open chests until you've reached level 60 on all your heroes. They're balanced to drop very good items for heroes around and under level 60 (they were never reworked for Nightmare difficulty or newer hard maps with better drops), so even if you don't need the mana - which I would still try to use to upgrade if you're at least level 3 and not going to place any more defenses - I open them to try to get some good gear. Once you have surpassed the point where Godly (must be at least level 60 to equip) gear is better than what you have, I wouldn't open chests anymore beyond the first couple of waves since Insane and Nightmare enemies drop so much mana anyway and I have yet to see a chest give me any gear above Godly tier.

And the first comment is correct, chests always contain the same amount of mana (though the chests in later levels give more mana, the mana amount doesn't change in the middle of a single map) and aren't guaranteed to drop loot. The mana inside, though minimal compared to what enemies drop, is not given to you at the end of a wave.

ok, so I'll keep opening chest for a while :) I don't want to waste anything. Thanks for all precious details !

Chests are still useful on NM. They give the same stat range as loot that drops on the ground on a given wave, but the rolls are biased higher within that range, and armor is more likely to have all four resistances. I've gotten a number of ult armors from chests on survival, and I also got ult++ armor once.

Oh wow okay, I guess I'm just unlucky? Or maybe it had to do with the fact that my recent memory was just from workshop maps which tend to have different drops rather than vanilla/DLC on NM.
