So based on the info' you provided, the Ranged damage on the Sparus you got will get upto 23,782 Ranged damage if you dump every single point into it. Which can be possible if it spawned with max projectiles and about 12-15K projectile speed. If not, you can adjust for 10 upgrade points for the 2 stats mentioned earlier. So after adjusting for 10 upgrade points it'll still be just a bit above 23K.
Now for Ranged Sparus, anything above 22K and below 24K is considered a decent starter Ranged Sparus, lets call it Tier 3. Between 24K to 26K is considered Tier 2. 26K to 28K is considered Tier 1. And 28k+ is considered "creme de la creme".
Currently I'm using a 77k and I have got a better one on my Primary Account(84k I think, been a long time), So how good can they get?
I know the Sparus isn't typically used as a melee weapon, but when you use a Mega Chicken/Sea Horse, you are close enough, that a melee weapon has far better DPS than a ranged one.
I am still a fan of melee sparus use tho, I think that the spread is to wide on ranged for my personal liking.
On your particular weapon, the melee and ranged spawns are both very good for insane, so if you don't have to dump too many points into projectile speed, it'd be nice for either. With the numbers you gave, the best you can get are 24k ranged and 77k melee, which puts the melee just a bit ahead. If you have to put many upgrades into pspd/+proj on the ranged sparus it'll be slightly further behind.
But it won't really matter much, so I'd do whichever you think is more fun :)
